Storing

Recommended Posts

I met a guy who recently bought a modern hybrid anglo and he claims he was advised to store it in the same position as being held when played because it was constructed with all the valves hanging down in that orientation. I've opened a few in my time and never seen one built that way. Does anyone make one with that design? If not, why not? It sounds like a good idea to me.

I think what he meant was to store it on one of the flats rather than on one of the button ends. If stored on one of the ends the valves on one of the sides of the reeds will hang down more. The valves will eventually take on this curve. That results in the push notes on one end and the draw notes of the other end not closing efficiently, affecting tone & response. I don't think he would have meant the particulat flat section which would orient the instrument as it would be while playing. This shouldn't make make much of a difference.
