I've seen a seller on eBay selling English Concertinas. A lot.

Is anyone familiar with this seller or the quality of these instruments? Would something like this make a good beginners English Concertina? Yea? Nea?

Someone else may have tried one but I suspect these are the ones that come under the dreaded "Chinese" category that you can read a number of threads on.

Seems likely to be a Chinese one as the Anglos they sell are the standard Chinese 30b boxes. I believe the general concensus is that if you're looking for a beginners English concertina for not much money then go for a Jackie or Jack from Concertina Connection, both for the quality compared to cost, and for the potential resale value - though at the moment it seems they've temporarily sold out. Judging by the quality of their Rochelle Anglo compared to the "Chinese" equivalent, it'll be worth the extra money.

I recently purchased a $114 EBay English, and though I have not played anything else to compare it to, I was pleased that it is resonably in tune and everything works. The action and bellows seem stiff, but I am trying to loosen the bellows a bit. I really didn't have the money to go up to a Jackie, particularly if that also is an instrument I would soon want to move on from. I regard it as a $120 experiment, which so far is OK. Now I want a Morse, at least. O dear. I thought harps were addictive and expensive!
