synchopepper
I noticed this 40 key Wheatstone, SN: 1502 for sale on eBay. Does anyone have the early Wheatstone ledgers handy for a date of manufacture? Also is this a baritone model? Any other info would be appreciated. Robin Harrison
The ledgers start at 1910.To date it , the best you can do is to go to the Buyers Guide on this site's home page, and look at Wes Williams article Dating Your Concertina. Stephen Chambers
I noticed this 40 key Wheatstone, SN: 1502 for sale on eBay. Does anyone have the early Wheatstone ledgers handy for a date of manufacture?<{POST_SNAPBACK}> It falls just outside the coverage of the surviving ledgers, but from the evidence of what is in them (they go up to #1495, and 5th April 1848) it would seem to date from the Spring of 1848. Also is this a baritone model? Any other info would be appreciated. It is much too small to be a baritone, it's a cheap treble model with a reduced range of notes, lacking the low G, G#, A, Ab, and Bb, as well as the high B, Bb and C. I expect that it has sharp "bookbinder corners" on the bellows, rather than the more normal rounded ones, which may well be the reason they have had those ugly white patches added to them.
