  3. email it to Kautilya offsite and I will see if I can get him to resize it for you - unless it is some cryptic format......
  4. Great. Well found. Diff to tell what harmonicas. Sounds like tremolos (two rows of holes/reeds on one side as in pic http://www.amazon.co.uk/SWAN-SENIOR-HOLE-TREMOLO-HARMONICA/dp/B005EX9MKM/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1347888754&sr=1-1) It is suggested here Kinsella and Epping play chromatic (but three kinds of mouth organ are shown!) http://homepages.iol.ie/~ronolan/harmonica.html(but in the youtube we have here I cannot see any pushing on a 'slide' button as you can here with Larry Adler who says the sound of harmonica [and we can add the tina] can bring you nearer to the human voice and is what may make the two so attractive together. ( comment at beginning and button slide at 3.32_ Pity youtube cuts off titling of the Irish performances as it is then v difficult to work your way through to find other gems like this Wonderful to see so many young people playing... whatever my many criticisms of fast and furious Irish, that big number of young recruits makes our English efforts here look pathetic. There is plan afoot to get a proper cash pot collected and plenty of advance notice, so that more young players can make it to ECMW 2013 - if you fancy taking an English punt on the future (excuse the pun t) from your occasional change and put it into a jam jar, you would easily collect at least a fiver by next June to donate..... http://ecmwbrightlingsea.com/index.html
  5. Seems odd not there as yr domain name expiry date is not till October 7 2013 (rpt 2013). Just as matter of interest Al, to whom and how much were you paying for domain name renewal per annum and were you paying extra and storage and for the download option and if so how much? If you have had enough of it then you might as well sell it to someone who will use it for their gigs etc (there must be Irish startups who would want to buy and they might even pay at "gandpa" tina selling rates!!!) and you will get some if not more back of what you have spent in recent years. There are still big differences between various providers and of course the scams. So for a year through Sibername in Canada for a .com one pays CD$12.95 (8.205 GBP according to FTimes spot rate just now) The scam operation Domain Registry of Canada writes to domain name owners 'inviting' renewal at up to 60 quid!! They just collect your name and address details off your registrar's site and snailmail you a letter and hope you will pay up and obviously some people do. Warning here: http://sibername.com/en/support/droc.php The regular UK's Easily provider charges 14.99 for one year on a .com , almost double sibername. Here is the "WHO is" for you and yr Oct 2013 expiry date. Domain Name: CONCERTINAMAN.COM Registrar: TUCOWS.COM CO. 6. Oh.err in that case perhaps not! I can't play fast yet,, I can barely play slow much without stumbling I think you might find it a bit overwhelming. Might be good to plan for the George Inn on Oct 1 - Very accommodating, people are happy to give a few tips during breaks, and if you sit to one side of the centre group you can join in as and when u feel comfortable with a variety of tunes too without anyone hearing any boobies - their own instruments drown out others' ! although u still have us guessing even roughly where you are (!) it should be easy enough to get in from somewhere around the periphery of Londinium to London Bridge by car bus tube or main line.
  7. [cool] Cool many thanks for all those links, I think the closest for me is St Albans.. Just be aware that it is a group whose thing is playing fast Irish stuff. If you are not into that then it won't float your boat. I have not been back since my 'taster'.
  8. So the key theme phrasing in Ashokan Farewell is perhaps derivative (bearing in mind other sources striking folk as being similar)?
  9. Be interesting to know which came first, Wild Mountain Time/Will You Go Lassie, Go or Ashokan Farewell? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VoNFg5ofyE
  10. not sure where you are near as that 'location' covers a multitude of sinners and not sure how far you want to/are able to travel, though parking as you know is easier after 1830 and end of congestion charge. Irish (and fast and I have only been once and fast and furious is their thing, in St Albans - I think it was Rose and Crown but more listings too http://www.folkmusic.net/htmfiles/sessions.htm The George Inn, 100 yds down from London Bridge station, French first but a lot of other depending on who starts a tune with any instrumennt, and some singing, and on monday there were bass sax, cello, four accordions, three melodeons, tin whistle and drum, bodhran, harmonica, mediaeval guitar, hurdy gurdy, wrist bells, three fiddles, three concertinas, four 'voices'.... first Monday of the month 2000-2300 ( c/o http://www.onbouge.org/ The Horseshoe Inn also near London Bridge first sunday of the month 1200 to 1530 - mainly English tunes. http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/14/14422/Horseshoe_Inn/London_Bridge Keep any eye on Irish Centres http://www.irishculturalcentre.co.uk/?q=content/evening-chris-o-malley-des-hurleykaren-tweed-and-tom-mcelvogue http://www.londonirishcentre.org/arts-culture There is something regular just south of Dartford - can't remember but look through last 18 months of our events section. Ihad a folk events pamphlet for the region and I think this is the online version with dates venues and addresses. http://www.folklondon.co.uk/venues.html The Chiltinas near Ampthill - learn new pieces and practice other at their get togethers - Martin on the left http://www.chiltinas.org.uk/ is Memb Secretary of the INternational Concertina Association. The group meets once every month, usually on the third Sunday, in St. Mary's Church Hall in Church Road, Maulden, Beds, MK45 2AU good chocolate cake. They next meet on Sep 16th it seems http://www.chiltinas.org.uk/meeting_dates.html There must be others but can't remember just now. Calls here, for get togethers such as a flash mob, say in Camden market, based on a gathering at Cecil Sharp House (behind the market) fallen on deaf ears.... http://www.efdss.org/ There must be something about ukelele players who can pull in hundreds at little notice! Maybe you can join one of their get togethers - they certainly dont seem to have any hangups about visitors and might be grateful for new/extra sound. Some tina players also play the uke. http://www.mightyukulele.co.uk/ Are there not supposed to be some Morris Men up your vague way? They may have session tips and there seem to be a number of events heading towards east Anglia linked to the East Anglia Music Trust http://www.eatmt.org.uk/
  11. Never actually made it to FILO - at first thought it was FILEY, but maybe that is where they have gone to recuperate from folk week! Not processed sounnd and a some video yet... still recovering.... Tks for all the "early warning" (hint hint knock knock as the Russians would say) useful information pre and during the week!

  14. Well well, a funny thing happened to me on the way down to the Pier Head tomorrow (I will be passing that way en route to//////(don't ask)//////////////// Whitby ...... When I opened something for the weekend it came up with de Tallships gathering down at de docks as a little prezzie for Tallship after he offered arpeggio practice which some could not understand. It took me about 10 minutes to realise I was looking at a very old post. However, by then I had found a simple Scouse way of learning people how to play it first look at this photo http://liverpool.stock308.com/s308-Liverpool-107_0762.htm and then (we used to sing this while waiting for the ferry on the way to school - but like subprime mortgages it seems to have become inflated before coming back over here - our version had three not seven and locked not stuck (the metre is more accurate) Then I suddenly saw Tallship's delight at Jack Campin popping up - in fact I had suggested Jack look at the Whitby thread and then he found his old password and bingo! For Tallship therefore, I am ready to give Jack un grand baiser d'amour at the Eurosessions at Whitby (but it will cost Tship a tenner and I will only do it with my eyes screwed up!!!)
  15. nothing definite yet, Tufty's post was just a 'heads up' about a possible venue change, details in post no.183 at the Melnet Whitby thread Should one ring - or are some delicate negotiations going on in the backkground? 01947 602085 Hello, is that the Resolution please? Could you tell us if the main bar is open during the afternoon please? We wanted to come and listen to the musicians playing who were there last year each day during the Folk week - it was one of the nicest happenings of the whole festival and the main bar with the deck restaurant was so comfortable. If we want to eat while listening to the music, do you do your Resolution Burgers with the big fat chips all day? If we want to eat beforehand, what time does the lunch time sitting finish please? Or if we want tea (proper tea) or an early fish and chips supper after the music what time do you start serving please? Is the steak offer on every day/ night during Folk Week. Thanks a lot...
  16. Ta - and exactly why it is so attractive! sending u a pm to yr regular email. tks
  17. Oh gosh.... There won't be enough room in the Elsinore if we get the same numbers as last year, nor space for the range of instruments including dulcimers nor room for the dancers who came along... We cerainly cannot fit at same time as the melnetters - it was so cramped last year some were playing bivouacked on the North Wall. The Resolution will lose a number of meal sales -- some people also ate in the restaurant before and after the Eurosessions, up the few steps from where we played and danced. Has the young, very (innovative seafood)chef left too??? Does Middle Earth have programme workshops in the afternoons? - it was slack until about 1700 on a number of days after the middayish workshops. It has the room and the welcome.

  19. Anlej has a programme....(wearing both her Anglo and melodeon hats) She says there is an Englishy toons session at the Middle Earth (just up from Black Horse going away from the harbour from 1700 it seems - and not too difficult to park tho there may be sunday charges right in from (not wise to trust the Scarborough lot who control the parking) She has also mentioned new First in Last Out over on melnet which seems to have a new landlord keen to have players so you could check there or give em a ring. http://firstinlastoutpub.co.uk/
  20. Very nice/ Tku. Sounds just like a glider smoothing its relaxed way,up and down through the thermals.
  21. Ah! Vous me la baillez belle mon vieux.
  22. MELODEON-carrying members of the Tina Party may want to check out melodeon.net Whitby for the melnet gathering/sessions. G Arside, that well known wind teacher and peformer is apparently promoting free hot cross bums at The Elsinore or somewhere (see refs to Elsinore and seating arrangements). That's next door to Eurosessions in The Resolution. Any Hohner Scottish Highlander players should remember to bring 'em, as G Arside et al may be playing Athol Highlanders (praps also with bagpipes...) if the occasion arises. For insipid (is that the right word or perhaps incipient... ) melodeon players he also does a good melodeon beginners' workshop (or two) in the Middle Earth in the mornings. Low cost for pensioners and there may be a free one (a please put a penny in the old man's hat collection to cover his beans and other fuel. Check official Whitby calendar or melnet.
  23. ughh - camping barn *YHA one* (as this farm has its own barns too) is 70 quid a night for 10 people and you have to book 10 - all or nowt but the outside netty should be good for a quiet read. The farm is in the same rate zone for tents (more for campervans.........) http://www.barnfarmcamping.com/rates.htm
  24. Barn 7m from Wirksworth (unnknow whether booked or not) but it is on CAMPSITE too... http://www.yha.org.uk/barn/birchover-camping-barn Wild camping - this was presumably/tent/cave but yr c-van would surely find a quiet bower somewhere like this within range? Dovedale below is 11.2 miles from wirksworth (on the Chester side of the Peak district) "Has anyone wild camped in the Peak District? I have noticed that all the campsites tend to be in the valleys, particularly around Edale. Ideally I would like to do a 2-3 day loop starting and finishing at Edale, but camping elsewhere in between. Joanna Stone, London A. My mate, his kids, my kids and I camped in Reynards Cave, Dovedale the other week, the kids are only nippers. We are both both ex-forces, both responsible adults, I used to be a fireman. Our campfire was small and all evidence of our camp was removed next day. Kids loved it and have a memory that will last a lifetime. No one was hurt, nothing damaged. I honestly can't see a problem with wild camping, as long as it is done responsibly!!!
  25. I'll check with the witches of Pendle Hill who have cousins over that way.... "No",they say..... At least not for mouth-organ-playng-melodeon-squeezing-whistlesquirting-bespectacled-singers of a certain age ( That said, I suggest u drop an email to davesoke at btinternet dot com and ask Dave if there is any 'free' camping or fields near some of the "convenience-equipped" buildings (churches, clubs, schools) which might be made available by some local worthy. Thing is that coz there are several thousand arty-folk turning up for the week or more of talks and walks and forest happenings and sculptures most of the regular accomm (incl regional YHA) is long gone that weekend. But have a skeg at wirksworth location in relation to map YHA.org.uk as some of them used to offer camping and use of the facilities - but not sure how near such YHAs are. There are also some YHA bunk houses in the area tho they may be dearer than a plain old campsite. http://www.wirksworth.net/visitors/visitors.php I cannot commit at this stage but if I was free nearer the time I would be happy to tag along on your coat-tails and bring some words to hand out to get passerby/crowds/families singing along (More chance of more pennies in the hat too that way!). That was to be the idea last year and Dave thought it would be v good, but in the end (as Google translates): the "whiskey was willing but the meat was raw" and the few potental members of our little band of folk backed off (accomodation being main prob). sorry cant be more helpful and make u less unhappy!
