    Lowlands

Al the moonlight hopper was surprised (probably relieved!)when I only knew three verses (and forgot half of those) in a Bradfield pub, but it looks like its going to get a revival.. and you can probably make up your own words as the ones I know don't have "My love is drowned in the windy lowlands" (but who am I to winder!) I discover there is a "dead woman's" version 8 verses http://www.lyricsdownload.com/unknown-lowlands-away-lyrics.html and a dead man's version (And this one nearer my rewrite version) http://shanty.rendance.org/lyrics/showlyric.php/lowlands (I always thought wehen singing I had to pretend be a woman singing about her John drowned at sea... coz traditionally women don't go to sea....(fishing?)to get drowned... 11 verses http://www.traditionalmusic.co.uk/folk-song-lyrics/Lowlands%283%29.htm but this is all moving too far away from one of my favourite tunes for singing. Good for tina and melodeon praps as it is so slow! Watch out for the Glasgie versions: http://www.guardian.co.uk/artanddesign/2010/apr/04/susan-philipsz-glasgow-international-interview
  2. Do PM to let me know if you succeed. Had something I promised to send Harry after Swaledale last year but all listed contacts proved dead ends including his son's email and phones... so gave up! ta! PMd

  5. Apologies for those waiting for the Big Bass to turn up after the Whitehaven EATMT video. InsightandMind missed them in upload - here is the Bass & Tinas, two videos merged into one so hiccough in the middle. GREAT BASS ESCAPE - led by D Townsend CFM ACMM (Crowd Field Marshal, AccorTinaMelodeon Meister) & EATMT Village Band Stars for those who just want the sound (with a photo of the kind of people we had to cope with, hanging around outside and raising the tone of the neighbourhood.... (it was a backup when the moving pictures ones seem to have disappeared...) BTW - that Giant Bass has NO left Bass button side - all the basses are controlled by the keyboard (and the player of course!)
  6. Me too! ( mystified) Thanks for spotting Ken; it could be UN ICA covert operatives at work! Plese just kill the one without the photo - unless I have to do it which don't know how...
  7. Good post! April is early this year :-) --Mike K. nmaD! Never crossed my mind...should have waited... it is the military intelligence syndrome again! There were quite a few Oxen-like Morons behind the two way mirror as well....
  8. Mendlesham, UK, March 28, ABC-MIDIA NEWS – By PDF Top English concertina player defects The concertina world was expected to be facing a major riff-t and be bellowsed with shock after Dave Townsend was discovered to have gone over to the Melodeon Fraktion. When confronted, Townsend admitted to have been working secretly for some time on a new playing system which would be rolled out across the national curriculum….for melodeons… and launching a new wave of child musicians. Townsend came under suspicion when a melodeon two-row player was seen to have infiltrated the Whitehaven Volunteers’ Militia group (a free reed cell set up for ‘any concertina system’ ) here at the EATMT 2010 M&M meeting. The name of the session ‘“You’ll have to learn this one!” was clearly not about tunes, but a subtle brainwashing tactic against the beginner/intermediate concertina players attending. Interestingly, Townsend is understood to have complimented the melodeon player a number of times during the workshop. Townsend was finally fingered when a photographer later caught him in full conductor mode, gleefully rehearsing his method to an empty classroom. As can be seen from the photo, the method is based on melodeons with up to 20 buttons in a maximum two-row 9x9+2 layout, but the key to each configuration was not immediately clhear . The real breakthrough is that he seems to have developed a one-button instrument – it can just be made out to the far left of the Siegfried-style teaching line, adopted from the music halls. Such an instrument would be very easy to hide and operate clandestinely. Townsend refused to comment further and just grinned melodeoniacally. The full picture only emerged after EATMT, although suspicions had been aroused later in the day when he dragged a giant bass accordion out onto the floor to conduct, with The Deep Force, his advance concertina group at the EATMT show case performances. When contacted, the UN ICA (the UN Intelligible Centratina Agency) issued a statement saying a committee of investigation would soon be set up to study the implications and decide what action would have to be taken. When pressed, a senior UN ICA member simply breathed a long soundless, sigh and drummed the table with their fingers. Note: A forensic examination of the picture shows, secreted at the bottom right, a copy of 'One Snowy Night' and 'Farmyard gardens' both believed to contain songs such as Midnight Hop and Gardener's Delight, suggesting melodeonic collusion between Townsend and other well-known composer/players.
  9. It had to come one supposes - wot with escalating values of antique financial instruments as investors hedge against the creditSqueeze, damage at airports, unidentifiable all-the-same colour containers and rucksacks, disputes over date identifier numbers and origins., Now you will need all your life history (to be kept sick-urely on line so scammers and spamsters cannot get at it) and you may need more than your swish harmony nife for quick action during a session when it all goes wrong. But remember, above all to carry your laminated dots Score card with you so you can remember the toons others recognise you by and they can see you are also a genuine, accredited box holder. for more information click here: http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=-LIpAxjPt9U
  10. I'd get that left knee/cartilage/shin injury fixed fast Al or it could go the same way as your chin and mouth. Must be from trying to tap your foot and the thigh keeps lifting off
  11. This was part 1 - Part II WITH Bass Accordion is now under GREAT BASS ESCAPE - EATMT Acccord+Tinas There are more exposes to come - clear evidence that English player Townsend has defected to the dark side .. photographic evidence in due course........
  12. proven to be but there lies the rub! 'Proven' or 'discounted'? - I will have to listen to them backwards while asleep and see if that improves my playing.....
  13. Any mileage in taping "have-to-learn" toons (e.g. as for EATMT) and listen on headphones and leave them repeating when you go to bed........ Remember the 'the learn a language' stuff while you sleep? Of course babies pick up toons and words while they are awake coz they got nothing else to do......... I taped off the half a dozen due to be massacred at EATM but with only 36 hours to go, I reckon it is too late this time.... :( Any whiz players out there who would like to offer online Avatar plug in services by remote? The official word for Na'vi action is : full performance capture!
  14. if you are not an old strop like Al this cut throat for use with replaceable standard safety razor blades may do the business. They are the weapon of choice (since HIV) for most street barbers across the Himalayas and as sharp as you are prepared to pay on the pack of safety blades --u snap the latter in half and slide into blade holder, so no strop needed. I got a similar one recently from hairdresser suppliers, back of Angel Market Islington tho a bit dearer than this one below, and I did not realise there was a half blade supplied and in it and nearly cut myself ..... New blade original cuthroats can only be afforded by Jeffries players  at from 70 to 160 quid , but old rusty ones all over boot sales! http://www.coolblades.co.uk/jaguar-r1-razor.html
  15. Anyone mastered Dave Townsend's morning concertina offerings?["any concertina system@" I am beginning to wonder whether they are for a 30 key anglo as my 20 seems to have trouble finding some of the notes, even when set to robot auto play mode*..... B) or maybe it is just me. Tallship most kindly abc'd and midi'd Galop hey and The drummer for me so I can pm them if someone wants as not heard from Dave yet whether all right to post them publicly. Sounds like I'm in the same class in the morning as you. I've got a 30 button and I'm still struggling....although that may be because I learn tunes slower on the concertina than melodeon....and I need about 6months to learn a tune. lol! I am now putting aside a year never mind six months! :(

  17. So much useful and helpful information. I now realise too late, after installing the same model in the centre picture following, that I had found a Chinese solution that was slightly overengineered... Judging by the official quote from the great leader tho, it must have been a spring machine maker for MASSed bands http://www.anchorchain-china.com/
  18. I'lllend you my specs at the George - they are trying to swim UP against the stream... which SPRINGS from the plateau above surrounded by moun tains leading over to Bow Fell Great Gable, so think of the air and water pressure. Actually you can also take shelter by swimming 'inside' the rocks as they have been carved out into little caves by the water bellowsing through. On second thoughts, no specs - I will help you stand on the bridge from where the photo taken and you wont see how far the drop is into the deep pool which the local scallies jump into. Free-music gathering even? This is only about 20 minutes (the sea and lagoon is 20 minutes the other way) from where i thought would be nice sometime to have a long, unorganised, musical weekend in 30 bed/bunk dorm plus four small rooms .plus family annex in ancient long cottage I have access to. It is next to much smaller Duddon Beck which runs along the bottom of the garden - seven quid a night for all facilities including heated floor showers and bring your own food and drink for self catering. Can;t get cheaper than that and no neighbours to worry about on the fells.........It is usually free much of the summer months particularly sunday night to Friday - and only 40 minutes drive from M6/Kendal and 30 mins Coniston.......... accordionisti welcome too....
  19. And here's the stream entering the cascade to fill the Duddon river which tumbles down into the wide estuary and into the Irish Sea and takes the tune out across the globe's oceans :) ........... click to enlarge
  20. I thought they were a pop group. Chris Your age is showing again - have you forgotten your dancing days playing the pan pipes?
  21. Well, whilst you may not have posted the link to your video, here, the clip is there for all to see on YouTube, under your Insight and Mind, or whatever heading. Chris Yup - that's the one Chris - as usual your insightfulness has obviously taken over my mind. Tho this telekinesis via telepathy power (concentrina waves) is also clearly resident in michaelsamwild; insightandmind told me he had posted a comment about harry's big boots........... The important thing is that folk can now find those 2 harry jazz pieces... and ta 2 u both
  22. Thought I did but cannot find it.............help... my brain is all bellowsed.... :(
