Anglo-Irishman
The attachment (BMP format and almost 2 Megabyte) might be a problem for some of us. So I converted it to JPG, 82 Kilobyte. Thanks for the loadable pic. Another striking looking instrment! A closer look prompts the question whether there's a law that says that concertinas with mixed wood/metal ends HAVE to have Keltic knotwork patterns Wakker, Herrington, Dipper ... any others? Cheers, John
wim wakker
The dipper looks interesting. I don’t think that the (brass?) insert has any effect on the sound because of its position. Rod: The main purpose of fabric was to keep dirt/insects out. Fabric has a dampening effect on the sound (it doesn’t reflect much) which most people don’t appreciate. richard
I have seen a Dipper concertina that had metal and wood on the ends. I believe it was called the "Merlin" model. I don't know if the metal part of the end was exposed on the interior side, or if the metal was just inlaid onto the wood part of the end.
