david watkins
Hi Currently for sale on ebay, anyone bought/played one, or have any comments? I don't know if this has been on the forums before, I've seen it once or twice in the last couple of months on ebay, looks like a Rochelle-type to my untrained eye, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-CONCERTINA-30-BU...1QQcmdZViewItem Cheers david
Stephen Chambers
David, It might look almost the same on the outside, but it's what's on the inside that counts more. It's not going to have either the same action (buttons and lever mechanism) as a Rochelle, nor the same reeds, and it won't have been checked over by both Karen and Wim Wakker, and the dealer, before you get it. Nor will you be able to later trade it up for the full price you paid for it... Does it still sound like such a bargain? Woody
Hi Currently for sale on ebay, anyone bought/played one, or have any comments? While there are obvious similarities in appearance, the Rochelle is way way superior to one of these.... more comfortable to play, more reliable, better sound, better placement of buttons, better button action, more conventional choice of notes on the accidental row, more airtight. You could start learning on one of these, but my experience is that you'll soon be longing to upgrade to a Rochelle & the Rochelle will last you far longer as a learner instrument before you feel the need to move up to the next level of instrument. Marien
It is very hard work, playing on this cheap new box with its tough bellows, it may end up in the cupboard soon. A rochelle will invite you more to keep playing the concertina.
Hooves
Hi Currently for sale on ebay, anyone bought/played one, or have any comments? Expect the usual: accordion wax mounted reeds, aluminum action, paper bellows. did you purchase it? I see it was won by some lucky bloke...
