Jody Kruskal
If you love American old-time music or if you’re not sure just what that might be, you can get satisfied or edified as the case may be by checking out... Sugar in the Gourd: Old-Time Music - John Salmon’s streaming music site is the best of it’s kind, with a great mix of old and new recordings with links for further exploration. Continuous old-time music from the early days with the likes of the Skillet Lickers or the East Texas Serenaders all the way up to brand spanking new releases like my Poor Little Liza Jane for instance. I’m sorry to say that there is no concertina playing aside from mine to be heard, though harmonicas do pop up from time to time. Still, those of us who aspire to the old-time sound on concertina or the merely curious can get an overview of the genre here better than anywhere else I know. Getting the music to play does take a few clicks. Follow the link above Click on the “listen” speaker icon This takes you to loudcity. You do not need to register. Just select your connection speed and click save. If the music does not start then select a player icon in the left hand corner to play. I use real player but windows media or other options you may have work too. Jim Besser
I was listening to Sugar tonight when I heard one of mine. Here was the line up: I've been listening every day as I work. Heard one other concertina in the oldtime mix: some vintage Bertram Levy. Great stuff. Poor Little Liza gets a lot of play in their rotation! I think the Sugar site used to be the all-django-all-the-time station, which I also listened to. Edited June 13, 2007 by Jim Besser
