We'll be in Nottingham for three days after New Year's. Does anybody have suggestions for sessions/shows around that time? The sessions are allowed to stay up with the adults as long as they don't hog the fire or upset the diners. Nottingham has The Bonnington theatre which has jazz. Derby now has The Playhouse Theatre which shows some of the best drama in the UK. but at present all you'll get is Pantomime, 'Oh yes it is ! I know that some of these are still current, I go to the Jug and Glass regularly myself. Another useful link is http://www.folkandroots.co.uk and you could try http://www.dhtmc.co.uk/ I know there will be a New Year's Day evening session at The Cliff, Crich and that is usually well attended. I'm also told that there is a New Year's Day afternoon session in a village between Ashbourne and Matlock but I'm not sure which one. However I can find out if you like. Nice session in The Barrel at Bretton near Eyam on Wednesdays. As Peter says there are a lot of pub sessions, unlisted on the net, held at rural country pubs in Derbyshire but I would have to do some research to get more details for you. The Coopers Session mostly English but there are a few Irish players and maybe a song or two. Holbrook the same. I haven't been to Whatstandwell for some time but I'm told that anything goes. There is an Irish session at the Derby Irish Centre, fortnightly on Tuesdays I think. Let me know if you're interested and I 'll get more info. SRFN is usually the most up to date of the three or four websites that give details about what is going in Sheffield and South Yorkshire.
