Edouard Arsenault
Allo to all! Hope everyone had a nice holiday season. I am new to the concertina, I have recently commissioned a craftsman to build me a 30b C/G Wheatstone layout. I would like to know if there are any note arrangements/accidentals that would be helpful in playing Quebecois fiddle tunes, was Wheatstone the right choice or should I have gone with a Jeffries layout in a circular Wheatstone reed pan. . Jody Kruskal
Edouard, I play Quebecois fiddle tunes on Anglo. For ease of play in the most common fiddle keys, my advice is to get a G/D Jefferies.
Alex West
I agree with Jodie - when I was in Montreal for a spell, I found I could play along in the sessions quite easily (OK - within my level of competence at least!) with my GD concertina. Doesn't have to be a Jeffries or Jeffries layout though Alex West
Jody Kruskal
True, Jefferies is not required, just a bit better... esp. for playing in the keys of D and A. Edited January 3, 2020 by Jody Kruskal
