premo
A while back I started a thread to identify the concertina player in a Dad's Army episode (The Godiva Affair) where the platoon were practising a Morris dance. The player was soon identified (of course!). Just recently the Rumford Morris Men were approached by the Thurrock Court players who were going to put on a stage version of three Dad's Army episodes, including 'Godiva', and wanted help to put together a dance to perform on stage. We helped them with a shortened and simplified version of Young Collins. However they required a musician. The upshot of all this is that I appeared as Private Day and played my concertina for their dance at the end of last week. Not only do I find this a curious coincidence, but I feel that I was carrying on a tradition of having a concertina in a production of this episode. The performance went very well (only a few wrong notes!) and the players were very convincing in their roles as Mainwairing, Wilson, Jones et al. Hilary
The morris side in the Dad's Army episode was Staploe Hundred, our squire was one of them - small world.
Stephen Chambers
The morris side in the Dad's Army episode was Staploe Hundred, our squire was one of them ... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And the concertina player, as I said before, was Peter Honri, grandson of the renowned Music-Hall duet player Percy Honri.
