A friend has inherited this concertina (see photos) and has asked me if it is worth repairing. As I am relatively new to concertinas, and can only compare it to my Lachenal Anglo, I am seeking "expert" opinions.

Externally the box looks quite good, with a wood veneer finish, 5 fold leather (?) bellows (leaking), and Lachenal type straps. It weighs about half the weight of my Lachenal.

Internally, the levers are made of wood, and the reed plates similar to harmonica reeds. Some of the reeds are silent, and I cannot work out its tuning - its considerably higher tuned than my C/G Anglo, although I can get a tune out of the RH sied.

Does anyone know what make this is? Is it worth repairing?

Thanks in anticipation.

As Paul has already suggested, this instument is of typical German construction. I couldn't say who made it, but it is quite likely something like 100 years old and made in the town of Klingenthal.

Such concertinas were made to sell at a very low price new and, unless you really want a playing-example of a German concertina, not really worth repairing.
