Pads

I am replacing the pads on my lachena l 30 key anglo.the original pads are smaller than the circular grooves cut in the wood.according to david elliots book the pads should sit on top of the grooves.is this important?

The grooves are an aid to centering the pad over the hole rather than a size guide. There is no need to be too anxious about the size, as long as there is at least 2mm overlap around the hole it will work .
