malcolmbebb
I've just got a 20b Lachenal C/G. It's lost its insert, but the serial number on the LH reed pan is 67571. It has brass reeds (with one steel replacement). I've been looking at Wes Willams' guide but I get two dates: around 1866 from the formula, or around 1894 from the table. A big difference... Is there a further means to get an estimate of age?
Stephen Chambers
Based purely on Lachenal's having made Anglos for 71 years from 1862 until 1933, and their Anglo serial numbers going up to around 201100 in that time, then 67571 would have been made late in 1885. But that's assuming consecutive serial numbers and a constant rate of production...
malcolmbebb
Thanks Stephen, so I guess 1890 as a working figure would be reasonable.
