Guest Allan
Hello Forum members Four weeks ago I had never heard the word Concertina . Its therefore a rather strange feeling sitting here today having made my first excercise on my new Anglo 20 key Stagi purchased from the Button Box and delivered to me "on wings". I must admit it was done on quite an impulse but to my defense I must say that both my father and great-grandfather played accordion. In Norway we have a local one quite similiar to the 20 key but called Torader or translated two-rows.(21 keys plus 8 ? bass keys) Now my question to this forum is if anyone know someone who plays this instrument over here ? We have quite an Irish/English colony in Norway so it does not have to be a Norwegian like myself. Have a great day. Allan p.s I live just outside our capital Oslo. Stephen Mills
According to this site concertina meetup, 19 concertina players near Oslo are signed up for a July 6 meetup. Why don't you sign up? edited comment: Upon further examination, that is 19 players worldwide who have signed up for July 6 meetup, all but 3 in the US (1 Japan, 2 Australia), so, never mind. (The software had said 19 near Oslo!) Edited June 1, 2004 by Stephen Mills
btice
Hello Allan. Welcome to the forum. I am new here also. I seem to have been bitten by the concertina bug. I thought about getting one years ago, but working as a field archeologist didn't leave much time for it. And who wants to play in the dirt anyway? Now that I'm in education and come home a little cleaner, I decided that life was too short not to have a concertina. I have the same problem you have...trying to find a kindred soul to practice with. However, I think you will probably find someone in your area much sooner than I will in El Paso, Texas. Plenty of Tex-Mex accordian players, but no concertinas. Good luck with your concertina. Anita
Hi Allan, I see your looking for fellow Norwegian concertina players: I have ordered a 20button anglo which should be arriving one of these days...so at least that makes two of us (And I saw a clown playing concertina at a clown show...so that`s three...hopefully there are more though!) - Anita (som e`fra Bergen )

Allan, I was just wondering what drove your decision? My first concertina was not completely impulse, but close. My piano accordion WAS an impusle, but I love both still. Did you play other instruments before? Jay
alblak1940
I was just wondering what drove your decision? My first concertina was not completely impulse, but close. My piano accordion WAS an impusle, but I love both still. Did you play other instruments before? Jay Hello Jay. I went to a friends house some 4 weeks ago and two others guests played the Norwegian Torader. I then remembered some old family stories of accordion playing and also my father playing it. So there was a certain "tension" inside me that immediately came up. Ive been a guitar player for many years but got bored with it. So I stopped playing some 10 years ago. It may not have been "my" instrument. If u have heard stories about pocket-thieves they normally make some disturbance in one direction and when everybody look one way they steal ur wallet or some other thing of value u have. Im the guy who look in the other direction. So instead of looking to Norway I looked abroad and for something that I knew sounded similar but still different I then came across Concertina and my intuition told me immediately that I had found what I was looking for. I believe impulse is a good thing....its an important vibration inside worth noticing. Hope that explains Take care Allan++

Funny thing, there's a story in the local paper today about just that. The "disturbance" was a young woman stripping naked.
