Lockdown Video #722 It was wonderful to hear the Cuckoo calling again, at 5.30am this morning, while listening to the dawn chorus from my back door. Incidentally, when I googled the Irish name for this tune today, I got two different answers - The Bonny Swan & The Bonny Penguin. 😳 .. There aren't many Penguins to be found around the coast of Ireland. 😀 Chers, Dick

  6. To avoid overloading Concertina.net with attachments, I've created a DROPBOX FOLDER where you can view my videos, compositions, sheet music, pdfs, xml, musicxml, midi, and photos. I've only posted a few so far: "Over the Rainbow" arrangement files and files pertaining to my newly acquired 1904 Edeophone Baritone 56-button. I will keep adding music files weekly, so keep the link copied somewhere handy. ---Matt Heumann Thanks to all who suggested this solution!!!!!!! *You will have to download the midi, musicxml & xml files and reopen in appropriate music program. Ignore & delete the various pop-ups asking you to do things, If it asks you to login, go to dialog below that where it says "continue download", you should be good to go! Dropbox folder "Concertina.net -Matt Heumann": (You will have to download the midi, musicxml & xml files and reopen in appropriate music program). https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/i5lofidbbd1yjobp9n9g0/AG3cvIuctpmyNHXehpLB9qw?rlkey=69a5q3urtcv1j4uk1s83do1bi&dl=0
  7. Here is my arrangement on Treble English concertina. Somewhere over the Rainbow (1939) Music by Harold Arlen (song lyrics were by Yip Harburg). The original version, way too long and way too many hokey lyrics was rejected by MGM, but when they needed a filler, they cut the song down to what became the Judy Garland classic. I am including a YouTube link. SEE MORE AT THIS DROPBOX LINK: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/i5lofidbbd1yjobp9n9g0/AG3cvIuctpmyNHXehpLB9qw?rlkey=69a5q3urtcv1j4uk1s83do1bi&dl=0 ---Matt
  8. There is a group of about 6 regular musicians that gather together in Takoma Park, MD every Monday evening and jam to the Django Fake book. I finally made the trek up to join them and had a swell time. Much of the music is familiar but it was great fun playing in this stylized jazz style, which I have some experience in playing but never on a regular basis.I especially enjoyed the chance to sight read a lot of cool chords and fast paced melody lines (mistakes were graciously overlooked). The musicians had never played with an English concertina before so the experience was new and refreshing for all of us. I did not record or take photos but maybe next time. The Django Fake Book which I also use to arrange tunes to play polyphonically, was too big to attach but can be found online for free. Google 2008 Django Fake Book Enjoy. rss
  9. Here is my Bouree in G minor in the style of J.S. Bach composed in 1985 on his birthday. For now it is the melody only. Rather than presenting an audio of me playing concertina, I've attached a sound file with an organ voice (which is what I had in mind when I wrote the piece). It sounds great on an English Baritone, very organ-like. Also included are files in; pdf, midi, musicxml,& xml. 10. After years of trying to transcribe this................ I finally managed to get it down on paper (evidently my "phrasing" as I play it didn't match the actual composition). It's great for drone practice! I've attached a pdf of the arrangement & 2 sound files, one of the "music program'" playing the tune as transcribed, the other of me on Edeophone (without repeats). Enjoy! Isla's lullabye w:drones.mp3 Isla's Lullabye on Edeophone.mp3 Isla's lullabye w:drones.pdf

  14. I'm not seeing anything on CNET about Sid Goldsmith, so wanted to share a couple of videos of his that I stumbled upon today quite by accident. Absolutely lovely EC playing, awesome sound on the bass EC too! He also plays in the folk trio Tarren out of Bristol. Of course, I had to immediately download the CD from their website. Mostly fiddle, cittern, accordion, and some songs and concertina. Excellent stuff. Gary
