    scam or spam?

I can assure you that the model 25 is NOT a scam. I do not and have NEVER EVER attempted to scam anyone. This is a genuine decent quality instrument. Please be more careful about who you accuse in the future.
  2. There is a very strange English concertina on eBay. Has anyone any idea of who made it and what the construction is? Pete My link
  3. It appears that I have too many instruments (is this possible?). Anyway, I am selling my 60 key Wheatstone 25. The model 25 is the extended range version of the coveted model 22. The good points: Raised metal ends, 6 fold bellows, bowing valve, wrist strap screws fitted (no straps). It was fully overhauled by Dave Elliott about 2 years ago with pads, valves, bellows rebind etc.. The original fitted case was renovated by our local saddlers with reinforcing corners, new carry strap and lock strap. The not so good points: The ends have quite a lot of wear where the heel of your palm sits (see pictures). This has worn though slightly just at the very back corner - just visible on LH end. Strangely the buttons and surround only show normal use. There is also one patch under the bellows on the outside where the hinge must have been damaged. This is only visible upside down. Anyway I am looking for offers close to £1800. If anyone wishes to see it, I am near Stroud in Gloucestershire. If it sells through this forum, I will make the appropriate donation.
  4. That's the tune I know and in the same key! It's a bit different.
  5. "For those who like a good conspiracy it appears that are lots of nuances, ambiguities and allusions that we would not recognise but that were there for a clued up reader. I wonder what Old Noll's Jig referred to.?" I play a tune by the name of Old Noll's Jig which came from one of the old manuscript books in the Henry Watson Library in Manchester. 'Old Noll' is, apparently, one of Oliver Cromwell's less than respectful nicknames. Pete
  6. Runcorn's not far away from me ... maybe I could ask to look at it. (Done) Good idea, do you mean you've arranged that or requested it? And can I have first option if it's genuine???? I have sent a message asking for the serial number. Any bets on whether I get a reply? I also requested the serial number and asked for photographs of the other end and the bellows, mainly to try and confirm that he is actually in posession of the concertina. No response as yet........

    wheatstone

Have a look at these photographs on danny Chapman's site. Exactly the same construction and label. http://www.rowlhouse.co.uk/concertina/whea...ne98/index.html
  8. The prices they realised seem quite reasonable to me. Noticed that the Jeffries duet was not described as a duet and the two very basic wooden anglos didn't sell. There were far more violins for sale and it amazed me to see that some silver-tipped violin bows, on their own, fetched more than some quality violins. At that price, I'd frame the bow rather than use it! Chris Hi. Mitchells held an auction today (Friday) which included an amboyna ended Aeola baritone requiring quite a lot of attention to the woodwork. This went for £3200 plus buyers commission of 20%. Include the cost of repairs and retuning - quite a tidy sum. Link here http://www.invaluable.com/auction-lot/a-c....88-c-c3e79b34ad Pete everything in moderation, including moderation....
  9. Hi there. having watched this site for a while, it seemed time to actually join. I have been playing English concertina for many years (apart from a rather long layoff due to being moved through work). Is it safe to say that I also (attempt to) play melodeon as well (is th M work permitted here?)? Located near Stroud in Gloucestershire. Anyone else here in that area? Anyway, Hi ! Pete
