  1. Thanks for putting a link up to my videos
  2. I get nervous when I have to play and someone is watching...or even outside the door. I worry so much about that I forget to concentrate on the notes.
  3. Ahoy there. Is there an easy pirate song I could learn me hearties? Yaaarrr.
  4. I think playing twinkle little star over and over and over again may have annoyed quite a few members of my family.
  5. http://www.id-werbeagentur.com/concertina/ Sebastian wow! that's cool. Thanks Sebastian.
  6. Its a shame there isn't a virtual concertina online to try....or practice on.
  7. You lost me. What's an Emote ? Chas In emote is the little 'faces' you can insert by either clicking on the image in the box on the left when you reply or by using the smiley shortcut. They can be still or have movement. like or
  8. Sounds like a similar situation to me....I'm a sucker for impulse buying. (I'm finding I have to bully my scarlatti to work) I'm hoping to get one myself.
  9. My intial thought was to put my 'name' on it in a decorative way so I could identify it as mine if it got lost. Then all these suggestions came in for a total decoration which looked interesting. But I've looked it all up and its a bit expensive and time consuming. I think I might just paint my initials on it somewhere in small letters.
  10. how do I do that? What's the secret? I keep doing it wrong. I think ooh that sounds like an easy tune I take it hoem try to work out what buttons to press and think that's really hard. *throws music away* I'll try another..this has happened 10 times I'm starting to think its me.
  11. answer to first question its and anglo answer to 2nd question..I have no idea I'll have to look it up. learning by ear escapes me...I admire anyone who can do it. This is the extent of my knowledge: and I have a (photocopy out of a book) which I can use to check what note it is by what line on the stave it is. That is all I understand of that kind of notation anything else on the stave I'm kinda guessing. But its relating the notes to the buttons which I can't get.
  12. Hm. An old piano is only boring when not played properly. The moment you start breathing life into it, it will start shining like no decals can ever be. So, you know... One has to watch out for compliments lke: "Oh, your instrument is such a lovely looking thing", instead of "Oh, your playing was so moving". maybe if I make mine look stunning enough people won't notice any wrong notes etc. or they can occupy themselves admiring it while I slowly plod along through a tune.
  13. Not sure what you're asking for here. Generate dots from what? Audio input? That would be tricky. I've heard claims for programs that work reasonably well, but I've never seen one, and I can't imagine it wouldn't require a great deal of "post-production" editing. I was thinking from the abc format if it can convert to notation then would it be able to convert to dots or some form of tabulature? My BIG problem is how do you get from what's written down to what button to use? It's infuriatingly impossible! Everytime I try I just get angry because I CAN'T do it! What is the trick? Is there a secret code or something I'm missing?
  14. yep. Its a tune I recognise so I thought it would make it easier to learn the tune. Only problem is I'm rubbish at getting the dots from the notation....I can never workout the easiest button to use or what row it should be.
  15. Now, here's a man who knows his pixels /Henrik Henrik, I have the impression that LDT is not a man! I remember you having the same trouble with Ennistraveller (???) I am a lady
  16. Does anyone know where I can find the notes for 'I do like to be beside the seaside'? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Do_Like_To_...ide_the_Seaside Thought it would be fun to learn...seeing as I live beside the seaside. although I think the lyrics should be: Oh! I don't like to be beside the seaside I don't like to be beside the sea! Its not safe to stroll upon the Prom, Prom, Prom! Where the cars blast out ' boom-boom-boom' So just let me get away from the seaside I'll be beside myself with glee For there's lots of yobs besides, I should like to be beside anywhere but, Beside the seaside! Beside the sea!
  17. Don't know if you can add custom emotes but I thought there was not concertina emote. So I made one. feel free to use it.
  18. I would guess that the people who prefer Jeffries system are most likely playing Irish style. For chorded 'English' style, that A/G reversal on button 2 is really handy. Having the push A stuck on the end of the top row wouldn't suit me at all. So we're back to your other question about the style you choose to play in...... Brian I want to play both (greedy I know) but I don't want to be put in a (squeeze) box style wise. I'm finding playing with chords very difficult and fustrating but then I've only managed to learn a couple of simple songs so I'm not at the level to judge yet. Maybe if I had a different layout it would be easier I don't know. *sigh*
  19. That was always my problem..melody was fine..just couldn't get my other hand to do chords.
  20. I might have more if I remember to transfer it to my ISA. Or stick it in a high interest account. ooh, they are nice. *drool* in four years I'd have a lot more to spend. lol! quick questions what's the whole Wheatstone or Jefferies thing? Is there a significant difference?
  21. anyway back on topic. I was thinking about my top end of budget for a new concertina in a years time will be £2400. I hope prices don't go up too much. Being quite the novice I'm open to reccomendations. I'd prefer a new concertina rather than 'vintage'.
  22. is there a site anywhere with how to learn to read music? Coz I tried to workout what buttons to press from the music pdf for a song and got totally confused...it ended up looking much more complicated than I thought it would be. Is there a 'dot generator' even? That would be useful.
  23. I've always learnt instruments in the past that have been chosen by other people. Recorder in infants school....I can't stand the sound. Keyboard/piano at senior school....never got any help from the so called teacher who spent most of her time messing about (i.e. haveing chair races) with the other music teacher. Lead guitar...my brother tried to show me but my fingers wouldn't reach and the strings hurt. Bass Guitar...I bought that because I once managed to play along for a whole song but that was because someone shouted the chord changes at me. Once I had to practice on my own. the Twang-twang-twang of the bass guitar on its own was very boring. Penny whistle....When I tried to play it more than 15 minutes at a time I almost had a asthma attack. And now I'm on to the concertina. figured out why its better in the evening...less distractions and noise. I tried practicing in the afternoon yesterday and it was way too noisy. Plus some idiot decided to randomly rev his engine outside for no apparent reason.
  24. Oh...actually that would be a cool idea....decorating a boring old piano with decals. Notes perhaps. My brother got a custom scratchplate for his guitar....just needs to figure out how to swap it for the old one. I think if we both decorate our concertina's we could start a trend cool.
