  1. oops, the above post was from me. I thought I would be asked for my login info, but it put me through as 'Guest.' Sorry. It was: I'm confused. I read and re-read this post and went to the sites, looked at the images. If the particular images DO match up with your 48-key Lachenal, as you say they do, then, I don't understand how the lines are all on the right, etc....in other words, I don't see that it's backwards. The images seem to match up the same as they would for the other one. I don't get this at all....shall be interesting to follow this thread.
  2. Hmm, I feel like posting a note. So...here's an excerpt from my 'comments' about a composition I wrote for EC. Even if you don't bother looking at the composition, this may be of interest: On the English concertina, every interval formed by playing any one button with the button directly above it is an interval of a fifth -- EXCEPT for those of the following three positions formed on the right hand's side, and the 'same,' but an octave higher, on the left hand's side: The 'B' button with the 'F' button above it (interval is +4) The 'Bb' button with the 'F#' button above it (interval is m6) The 'Eb' button with the 'Ab' button above it (interval is P4) Hmmm!
  3. What adorable froggies!!!! Hmm, makes me want to learn Kermit the frog's version of 'The Rainbow Connection' on the concertina! Lots of good chords in that one...I did have it worked out on guitar, long ago. Actually, we may have more toads than frogs, around here. Whatever! I don't mind them anytime....they can sing all night, that's okay.
  4. ...You mean, because of doing a parody of Foggy Dew? Hmm.. I think it's public domain....anyway, if my froggy had to go to court, that'd surely make him croak. Speaking of frogs...we usually have so many of them all over our road, at this time of year, hopping all over the place. It gets impossible to drive without squishing the...um, 'bubblepak,' as my brother calls it. I try to avoid them and take the most frog-free roads, so I won't hit them. They're so cute!
  5. I think it's mainly 'THE FROGGY, FROGGY DEW.'
  6. He was a birthday gift. He's assigned to the garden patch with the purple vinca. That stuff grows no matter what. When he gets reeeeeally good, maybe I'll move him over to....to, um, what? A rosebush, maybe.
  7. Well, no problem. And, whenever I start having those 'senior moments' (...think I may have, already), I'm going to use that 'Browse' command button as a good excuse to go out shopping. That's what it always meant, when my grandmother 'browsed,' years ago.... ...anyway, I don't know why I dare to be online, this late at night...just got home from a long drive, should probably go to bed! Good luck posting some pics!
  8. Shall make a note of this. I've yet to find any story-type books about the concertina, and I've looked at a few bookstores, when I happened to be at them.
  9. When you're editing/adding your post, there's a 'Browse' thing down below the smilies at the bottom. It's above the 'Add Reply' button.... So...let's see...I think the pic on your computer must be a certain size, not huge, or it won't work.
  10. Okay, well, the camera with the extra surprises that I'm still figuring out and finding is the Olympus C-740 (or, was that 740-C?) Ultra Zoom. The CD-Rom for the CamediaMaster Pro is what came with the camera. For some reason, I don't have a CD-Rom that my printed camera manual refers to, a camera CD manual -- says it should have come with the camera -- so, that's maybe part of why I'm still guessing around. (That, and the fact that I never really had any serious wish to be a photographer!) Most people with more computer know-how probably can make .wav files some other easy way, but...that's not me.
  11. CamediaMaster Pro. It's what came with my Olympus...something..digital camera, and I bought the upgrade at some point. In edit, under 'properties,' there's buttons for adding sound. I dont' think I can send the .wav with a photo, though...haven't figured it all out, yet, and now I'm busy so I"ll have to do it all later...daugher just home from school now... more notes later.
  12. Wow, and today I found out that I can make .wav files using my photo editor. Cool. So, I've got two files posted now, just follow the concertina links in my Yahoo! briefcase and you'll find them. My singing went a bit off-key and the pitbull joined in on one song, but...well, maybe I can do better later... gotta run.
  13. I think it would really send me away for good to a place where they would't allow concertinas, if I were to switch to a different system, now. (I play English.) I think that it would be more difficult for me to play the anglo, etc., after having worked out on the EC, than it would be if I'd never played the EC at all.
  14. That's....just great!!! Wonderful! Just keep trying.... hehehe. THey might find a very special place for you and whatever instrument you are singing along with...
  15. Mm, chocolate? Yum...but, that would be SWEEETISH. Not Danish. Unless, you were having the rasp on a cheese danish, I guess....that would be a great danish...
  16. You mean we don't have to pay attention until then? ...It means.... by June, I have a good reason to be playing my accordion instead of scraping the cat box clean or something.....simply because it's June! I'll have an alibi.
  17. Okay, folks....I checked with Cheri and here's the reply and the info, so.....ACCORDION PLAYERS, GET WRITING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 'Please DO post the info! I'd love to have as many entries as possible, from members and non-members alike! Thanks! Cheri Thurston' AS PUBLISHED IN THE FEBRUARY 2004 CAPA TIMES: QUOTE: "In anticipation of National Accordion Awareness Month in June, we are sponsoring the CAPA Accordion Song Parody contest. So how do you enter? Just take any well-known song, and write a song parody, using the accordion as subject matter. We've started several examplese here, just to give you an idea: (To the tune of 'I Love Paris') I love accordions in the springtime. I love accordions in the fall. I love accordions in the winter, when it drizzles. I love accordions in the summer, when it sizzles.... (To the tune of 'That's Amore') When the sound hits your ear Like a big mug of beer, That's accordion. When you're feeling so happy, Your toes start to tap, That's accordion.... (To the tune of 'My Favorite Things') Polkas and waltzes And tunes that are mellow. Classic and Cajun With buttons and bellows. Tangos and marches and music that sings These are a few of my favorite things.... We're offering a prize of a $25.00 and a CAPA tote bag--and, of course, all the honor of having your work published in the CAPA Times! Send your entries, with your name, address, and phone number, to CAPA at Cottonwood Press, 109-B Cameron Drive, Fort Collins, CO 80525. Or email them to cheri@cottonwoodpress.com. Entries must be received by May 15, 2004." (End Quote.)
  18. Well, I forgot I was even a member of it, hehe...been busier with my concertina! The website is http://capa.cottonwoodpress.com/times.html and they DO have a 'how to join' section, but....nothing about the contest. It's only mentioned in the newsletter. I wasn't sure if I'm welcome to post the info online...I'll e-mail Cheri and ask her...don't know if she has a reason for not putting it all at her website. So...I'll be back. I guess if anyone's in a hurry, they can try e-mailing ahead of me, for info. It's a fun little quarterly newsletter. They've featured various members, too, at times -- I was one, once, not because I'm a great player, but more because my daughter and I did some stuff with wooden-spoon puppets, using accordion, and I sent the info to them... in a rush, shall be back later to this thread...
  19. Well, I never really had to mute it...the quilted thing was more for some warmth, on my hands while I played, while having to spend time waiting in a car in...September or October in New England, I think. Condensation/sweat, yes, even in the cold weather was a problem...so, sometimes I'd leave the zipper open to let some air in. Needed the zipper along the length of the tube/bag, since the hand openings were small, gathered into the smallest openings possible. Main points...long nylon zipper, and a fabric that's got loft -- NOT flannel, etc., which is too flat. Quilted fabric, either pre-quilted or hand-sewn, can still be light-weight but it'll stay off the concertina for the most part. I suppose you could add an extra layer of something, to mute it more, but....just consider the moisture factor, too! No pattern drawn out...just free-lanced it.
  20. Please excuse me, strict concertina players, for appealing to the accordion players present, but...well, there ARE some present. (Helen?) I receive a newsletter, CAPA Times, and though I received my (February 2004) copy slightly late this time, there's still time to enter the contest. CAPA does have a website but there's no info there, that I can see...it's just in the printed newsletter. National Accordion Awareness Month is in June, by the way. Anyway....to enter, Cheri Thurston (editor/founder) says to take any well-known song and write a parody, using the accordion as the subject matter. She gives a few examples in the newsletter. The prize is $25. and a CAPA tote bag and being published in the CAPA Times. Entries must be received by CAPA by May 15th, 2004, with name, address, phone number. The website does give contact info....you can snail mail, or e-mail entries.
  21. I certainly enjoyed hearing Tom and the other people in Portsmouth sing and play, hope to hear more, sometime. I do hope he recovers well and quickly!
  22. I recently opened up a new Yahoo! Briefcase and went through all the details of the procedure to make my files 'Open To Public.' This is not the same as 'Open To Friends.' So...I'm confused, because sometimes when I click to it and click on 'All Folders' or something like that, I see, 'Open To Friends.' But if I go to edit the settings, it says 'Public.' Yes, I have friends in public...maybe....but, that's not it. So, if someone has a moment, can you check the link (it's in my signature, here) and tell me if you're blocked or not? If you are, then I'll have to go bother the Yahoo! people. Thank you much.
  23. ....and, though not really forum-related... I also just discovered that I was totally registered correctly with Yahoo! Briefcase, so anyone who clicked on my signature (here) link probably wasn't allowed to see the files it linked to. So, I fixed that registration.
