  1. I beleive the Jig I'm looking for is the same one that John Williams plays at the beginning of his DVD tutor. I may try to email Noel and see if he can point me in the right direction.
  2. Anyone have an ABC file for Patsy Toohey's jig? I've been searching the web and appear to have come up blank!
  3. I find that playing the chords which are written in accompanied sheet music is difficult at first and becomes easier with practice...my problem is having a melody line and trying to decide which chords to use to formulate an accompaniment.
  4. Hey Folks, This may be a stupid question, but why are all the mid-range instruments made with accordian reeds? Is it just that there aren't many good concertina reed manufacturers out there or are they just much more expensive? It seems that the workmanship on mid range instruments is quite often as good as top line ones. Is it the reeds that make the top line ones so expensive and not just the time it takes to manufacture them?
  5. I have to agree, when first looking at tunes with chord accompaniments I was sure that I would be unable to coordinate the fingers on separate hands but after persevering I was surprised at my progress. Keep on trying it will come!
  6. There's no frustration with the answers received. I appreciate that you pay to learn and hope that someday I'll have the chance. Thanks for the responses.
  7. Is it just cross rowing or is there a lot more to it? I tend to try to play across the rows anyway and have done from the get go. I'm wondering if there is a major difference in the way Noel plays the basic scales as opposed to the way Mick Bramich demonstates in his book. Mick gives alternative scale paths using a mostly pull or a mostly push method. I'd love to attend the Noel Hill school, but I think I'll have to wait a while or hope he comes to Bermuda and doesn't mind teaching while on holiday!
  8. Can anyone elaborate on the Noel Hill fingering technique?
  9. Thanks - looks good even after all that hard playing
  10. I like the last post! I guess that just about sums it up!
  11. I like the way it sounds having heard the recording on the recorded links page. The reason I asked what it really looked like was because I have no chance of viewing concertinas other than my own Stagi here in Bermuda and although sound and response are the most important, the look is also important...I guess that is why there are so many options when buying a more expensive concertina. I know the Morse boxes are supposedly mid-range, but they are still expensive and when making the decision asthetics are to be considered!
  12. Not sure what you're looking for. If I were to take pics of my Morse, they'd look like the ones on the BB Web site, only not as good. Exactly, I'd like to see it warts and all. How do you find the Morse?
  13. Does anyone have any pictures of their Morse Ceili Anglos. I am interested in seeing what they actually look like.
