Anyone Going To W.c.c.p. Kilve 2006?

Recommended Posts

If so, please pass on my regards to the tutors, and regulars, who might remember me from the events in the early 90's. What a great venue, and let's hope that the weather is kind.

Any chance of a posting with some notes and photos after the weekend?

Thanks,

Peter.

I did not see this before I went. I am still on a high after returning earlier today.

the principal tutors were Alistair Anderson for English, John Kirkpatrick for Anglo, and Paul McCann for duet.

We had the pleasure(?) of singing happy birthday to Alistair on Saturday.

Some of Alistair's sessions were a bit specialised - based on the recent jazz-oriented work with Annie Whitehead, but that did not mean there was no interest. And Alistair also did sessions on North East tunes and playing for dance, dividing his time between intermediate and advanced groups. John did sessions on anglo and also song accompaniment for all systems.

Paul led us through a method of memorising the melody quickly so that we could concentrate on reading the chords or accompaniment for left hand which part was written separately. Paul also led us through a set of morris dance tunes, to illustrate that duets were so versatile you (or he!!) could make them sound like anglos. Other contributions came from Brian Hayden with a few sessions on the Hayden duet system, and Claire Wren, who did her usual sterling work in concertina band workshops, plus the attentions of Colin & Rosalie Dipper.

The bar sessions had a great variety of contributions from single players and various combinations, including other instruments, and songs and recitations. I would recommend everyone to do a google search for Heather Wastie, and look up her poem 'Until I saw your foot'.

A number of those who have longer homeward journeys stayed over to travel back on Monday morning. We filled Sunday evening with a meal at the local hostelry The Hood Arms, followed by more music song and dance in the bar. This rounded off a great weekend and I have a few more memories to treasure.

And so to bed -I have some sleep to catch up on!
