Cross-row Fingering

For me my fourth finger is my ring finger.

I think there was a Topic some time ago that discussed the thumb-is-a-finger (i.e., "fingers" 1-5) vs. the thumb-is-something-else (T, and 1-4) terminologies.

I've forgotten what conclusions were reached, if any, since I don't think it matters, as long as we understand each other in the end.

I am not sure what the conclusions were either... but for concertina and diatonic (and Irish chromatic) button accordions I don't think the thumb is usually counted since most systems that I know of it doesn't play notes (Other than possibly a drone on a concertina).

Now on piano and Chromatic accordions it is a different story. Thumbs are definitely useful for those instruments.
