Hi everyone , first i would like to say thank you for letting me join your forum , it is great to see that there are still people out there , that like me believes music is not all electronic like we hear these days.I was very fortunate to have the honour of growing up with some of the greatest musicians in South Africa that ever played Boeremusiek that being said it is such a shame that most of them has passed on and I am afraid that their style and genius might be lost to the next generation. My father also recently passed and I deeply regret that I did not spend more time with him making music seeing as I am not very addept at playing an instrument , however I have inherited all of his instruments and I have a few questions about two Wheatstone concertinas he left me One of them has a serial # of 53160 and the other is # 54183 I know they meant a great deal to him and I think it might be time for me to learn how to play the concertina in order to pass along the art to my young children. If there is anyone here who might be able to shed some light on these concertinas I would truly greatly appreciate it, thank you so much in advance and I look forward to hearing from you.

Dankie

Hallo Jood, your concertina #53160 was made between 1948 to 1950 and the other one #54183 was made in 1951. Unfortunately the Wheatstone ledger's pages that record your two concertinas are missing so we can not determine the exact date they were made.

I would encourage you to contact the Boeremusiek Gilde on Facebook for help from fellow Boere Musiek players.

Rosie Potegieter, wife of the late Nic Potgieter, sells Boeremusiek lessons with cassettes, which will help you learn the top 50 Boeremusiek tunes step by step. (The lessons include note diagrams, major chords, minor chords, runs etc.)

I will send you a Personal Message with further advice.
