Azalin
I will probably be taking some classes at the Catskills Irish Arts in july and I've never had Caitlin Nic Gabhann as a teacher, and haven't heard much of her before last year. She's an awesome player, but I was wondering if anyone had her as a teacher, in a workshop or so. My problem with many teachers is that they mostly teach tunes, and not technique as much as I'd like. I think Tim Collins is amazing at teaching, he really goes into technique. Anyhow, if anyone had her as a teacher, please let me know!
Alan Caffrey
Hello, yes I was in Caitlin's intermediate class at the Catskills last year, really enjoyed it! She did teach us some tunes of course but also did a thing where we would pick a standard tune and she would show us how she might play and ornament or varie that tune. The advantage to this was we could concentrate immediately on the ornamentation as we had the tune in our fingers already. She's a very gifted young lady, and very busy, as she is also a dancer and plays fiddle too. Alan.
