Are you saying he was a Morris Man as well?
Well done Chris ,just shews what can be acheived by those with a little time and a great deal of dedication.
-
Buy Dave Elliotts Book , it will be much cheaper in the long run and quite empowering. A few basic tools is all you will need, a good screw-driver that fits the screws is a good start. Good Luck, it is not brain surgery.

There is a cracking song that is sung by Martin Carthy about a Concertina being repaired with Mashed Potato or was it a Baked Potato?
Well it was actually about having a Wake before the man had died.
-
Alan you have some pretty daft ideas but this one must beat the lot.
There is a sort of system that runs a c n c melodeon ,but we won't go there.
This just is not a workable idea. Forget about it, and go to bed with a cup of Horlicks. Well it rhymes with Horlicks, sort of

If you are struggling for some Rosewood try the local Car Boot Sale , rummage through the junk tools for an old Try Square with a rosewood stock and hey presto.
I personally would not use a plug cutter as a simple drill will do the job as well and save the money. Do Not drill all the way through but just make a pellet , leave proud and finish off to the right profile

Perhaps they Counter-bored the screw holes as the screws had broken and this was a Bodgers repair. Why not turn some Rose-wood Dowels and plug the holes and then re-bore?

We have re-listed this Concertina as I got it wrong last time..... and lots of you got it right!

Yes indeed we can say with the utmost certainty that this is what this concertina is. We will be re-listing it with the CORRECT description later on today. At least it has got a few people interested, although this was not my intention. I must be getting old as I seem to be making far too many mistakes. Many thanks Geoff for the assistance

Oh Dear , Sorry for the confusion. This machine goes down to the G below Middle C. The G being on the Right. Not as I replied on E Bay It is not an easy concertina to assess as I took a very bad tumble on the tarmac and this has affected my hearing to some extent. Thank you Geoff for your help

I will consult the "Delphic Oracle" or Geoff Crabb as he is more normally known as to its Tenor or Baritone status. As it has a similar range to my Holmwood Tenor that is why I so described it

Well James I can assure you that the other Double Reeded Concertinas in this set are still in England in the possession of the other family members for whom they were originally made. I have owned this Red one for about eight years and bought it from the original owner. It plays like a new concertina in every way. Everyone who has had the pleasure to play it has been very impressed by the tone, the sound and the condition of the instruement. It is a testament to the skill of the Crabb family. If anyone would like to sample the delights of this amazing machine please contact me through C.Net. It lives just South of Leicester at the moment.
I am trying to remedy the results of C.A.D by culling the herd. In other words I have far too many Concertinas and can only play one at a time

You could try Harriet Havers , The Saddler in the Newarke area . Harriett has repaired sever Leather Boxes for me and makes a lovely affordable job. You do'nt need to sell the Jeffries to pay the bill
-
I would have thought that this was right up Neil Wayne's street as he ia always on the lookout for the wierd and wonderful.
Could the barrel like chests act as an air receiver, as on a compressor, perhaps to give extra volume when it is called for
-
Well I enjoyed the John Clare "Burdett" but what I would like to do is to play Angelina Burdett-Coutts Jig on one of the Concertinas that she purchased from Wheatstones. Why you may wonder , well my surmane is Burdett and I am very very very distantly related. I will try and upload this tune when I can get "Chris" to do it for me.

We went to see Alistair Anderson at Anstey last night , a wonderful evening he makes me feel like chopping my fingers off. In the second half Alistair and Andy Parr performed a Duet . The playing was sensitive , fluid and very skilled. This young chap has come a long way in just TWO years There may be a video of this bit of the evening and if there is a chance we will get it on one of the sites.

Yes I know what you mean, When young Andy Parr or old Geoff Halford come to our Tina Session Oh Boy does it lift our game. We all put our best foot forward and away we go

No Irene House Concerts are not un-common
its like most things Folkie we keep them farly quite. In fact ours this week will be our seventy somethingth and with a bit of luck and a following breeze Marian B will be here for the weekend.
As I have said before, try it it is great fun and very rewarding . Two weeks ago we had a Master Class with a well known Northumbrian Tina player who was performing locally that evening. Utterly wonderful an honour and a privilege to be there

And to think I only went into my local Hardware Shop for some "Asbestos" string , saw he was mucky and he told me he had bought a parcel of old obsolete screws as a clearance line."Got any 1/4 or 3/8 1s or 2ss? Arh says he so I bought them ALL. Don't suppose you've any 1" or1/14 1s or 2s? Ahr says he , Sold says I" Then I phoned me old mate Dave. Now everybody is HAPPY The shop man because he thought he would never sell such a stupid size and all of us because we can keep Tina s going.
