Henk, since you've changed your avatar yet again, that statement takes on a completely different meaning!
(Now if I could only figure out what it is. )
Oeps!! I did not realize the possible consequences. Just thought that all the easter-rabbits (or do you call them bunnies?) at the bottom gave me reasons enough to change my Avatar.

Hey, you guys are just jealous.
Jealous???
Just trying to make a good impression

Congratulations and have fun!

There will come (I hope) answers from colleagues with more experience, but for me it is a good exercise to stop the note before reversing the bellows direction. It helps me in more exact timing.
However when I play fast, I very often leave the finger on the button and just reverse the bellows direction.
An example is the triplets that you hear in a hornpipe that I posted: The boys from bluehill. There it works very fine for me.
have fun!

Should include a cell phone, so the band members and sound board can connect via a conference call and only one person has to actually be at the gig.

I hope that your high-tech approach is not used for the Scandinavian Squeeze In ....

This version isn't so clear but it's the best I can do.
Try this link and see if this one is better .
While searching for this one, I came across the blind girl by Millais.
There must be more links to concertina-related pictures and artworks (an invitation to you all??) .

Looking at the appetite of Helen... I have changed my avatar

...and we recorded 2 arragments for it, the link appears (I think) in the list of recordings of concertina.net.
I wanted to know who is the concertina player registered in the Basque Country
Felix
Your Basque player is Joachim Delp.
Can you let us know the link to the recordings?

...as my stuff is so iffy.
Although completely off-topic: Thanks Helen for using words like "iffy". It enriches my knowledge of the English language!
Just one simple click and I can find the meaning (thanks to the free software of Guru-net). Look at the attached result.
When you are interested, have a look at: http://www.gurunet.com/

Just happened to find this thread, now. Fun! I'll practice playing that on my concertina -- have printed it out -- and then I'll try playing along with your recording!
It's nice that you have found this tune and have fun with it. Keep us informed on your progression!
BTW: in case you missed it, there are three more (not too difficult) tunes in this forum:
1. Af Shabbes in Vilna, including an entry in the Tune-o-Tron.
2. Lord Inchiquin (O' Carolan)
3. Sheebeg An Sheemore (O' Carolan)
Have fun

$1000
in Buy & Sell
$1000,- looks like a typical in-between price. For an extra $300 you could get this nice anglo!

Does anyone here have experience with the beast?
I can completely confirm the remarks of Doug. His story is almost the same as my story. The only difference is that I play it almost daily for less than an hour.
I am very positive about this solid machine and I am convinced that it is easily comparable with the anglo's that are in the same price-class. I am sure that it will take years for me before I am at the limits of the instrument (if ever).
On top of that the Marcus looks great and has a very nice fretwork (see photo)
Have fun with it and let us know if you continue with your Marcus.

I will be patient and in the meantime your best-of-both-worlds-solutions seems a good choice!

I know it is completely off topic, but being a "Chatty Contertinist", I assume that it is appropriate for a "chatty" person to go off topic on occasions. Therefor I would like to comment on the next quote.
Did you know that the Chinese -- especially adults -- find English difficult to learn? It is not only the Chise adults that have problems with the English language. When you use the criterium "pronounce it as you read it" it is a terrible language.
Example: the ea pronunciation in heart, heard, hear, caveat.
Was it George Bernard Shaw who realised this and wrote down the word ghoti? He asked people who saw the word, how to pronounce it. After some efforts, which did not satisfy him, he unveiled the pronunciation:
the gh from enough
the o from women
the ti from nation
So you should pronounce the word ghoti as "fish" !!
To come back to concertina's: I see some analogy between the rules for pronunciation of English and the keyboard layout of an Anglo.

P.S. have a look at this great map!

Up till now the C.Net member map of Stephen Mills is hidden somewhere as an attachment in this forum.
Because the map has a great function in bringing us more together, it deserves IMHO a prominent place on this website with access via the main menu at the top of each page.
With my compliments to Steven !

.If I could find a smilie for the "kid at christmas" way I'm feeling, I'd add a dozen of themCongratulations Sourdoh with your concertina!!
After way too long of thinking and wishing, I finally bought a concertina from the Button Box. It arrived today, so I've graduated from dreamer to whatever the next stage should be called.I hope you keep dreaming! I find it the nicest part of the buying proces (and not expensive!).
So once again, congratulations, keep dreaming and welcome to this community.

Lyrics, MIDItest and ABC too. Oh, my!
You can say that again Kurt! And o what a wonderful lines:
Old Erin's harp may sweeter be, the Scottish pipes blow keener;
But sing an old bush song for me to the good old concertina.
Thanks for this link!
BTW: I hear a quite different tune, when I see the words. Maybe I can work it out.

Hi Felix
Welcome to this community! I found in this forum a discussion that may be interesting for you.
I also digged up a discussion on Jeffries and Wheatstone layout.
I wish you a lot of patience during the coming 1.5 year!

edited to insert a second link

I thought of saying something about the day, but the snowstorm here got me so BLUE that I find it hard to celebrate the GREEN! (Wrote a song about it and added it to the Tune-O-Tron, as a matter of fact.)
Heard the music and saw the words...
poor you

I've just added three more songs: "Love Will Tear Us Apart", another Smiths song, and "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye" by Soft Cell. The latter two are a bit crackly - I'll see if I can sort that out tomorrow.
Stuart,
Again three "eye-openers" fo me! I have put them on the links page and it inspires me to have a look at pop-songs from my time. How about "I can't get no satisfaction"??? Maybe I could manage playing after some time... but my voice
Keep on recording!

I plan to come to Germany from the 22th of March untilabout the 5th of April.Would like to meet you at least one evening and play together....
.....And would like to record on MD the tunes you have recently published here. And to play a tune, where in order to achieve the speed, I had aslo to learn to play using all three rows. Tah we can compete who plays it quicker, and drink a beer.
Will it be possible ?
Joachim
Joachim,
You are of course welcome! We can have our private squeeze in, but anyone who reads this is also welcome .

My only worry is that if we let some of the music roll away, some lovely possible archive or research material could be lost I feel that we must tread carefully in this direction.
Al
I agree with you Al!
Up till now a lot of comments on this subject are posted in this forum. Maybe it is time to set-up a poll, based on those comments?
Anyway, I continue for the time being and updated my page. The simple reason is that:
- it is fun to collect and hear the tunes
- the page inspired at least one of the players in the list to pick up his concertina, plug in the microphone and play some more

Looking at this quote I suspect a certain bias towards the Anglo concertina.
So please explain your bias, before our heavy weight boxer starts the fight
