  1. Rosewood concertina, Dipper bellows, restored in 2002 by Paul Groff. Sounds great, beautiful instrument. $1200 OBO--someone should be enjoying this lovely concertina! Contact me at janismch2@gmail.com. The instrument is in the Chicago area.
  2. Paul replaced the reeds--he didn't change the tuning of the existing reeds.
  3. To see some photos: http://sites.google.com/site/concertinaphotos/
  4. Is it possible to get more of a description? Are the reeds steel? Mahogany ends or Rosewod? Metal buttons or bone? I might be interested, but these things would affect any offer I'd care to make. I'll take some photos and post them tonight. I believe that it is mahogany, and the buttons are bone.
  5. Converted by Paul Groff from a C-G, this isn't gorgeous to look at, but it sounds great and is in excellent condition. 20 keys. If you are interested, make an offer. I'm in Evanston, IL and would be happy to show it to you if you are in the area.
  6. (I was joking about "only as a prompt"--I just hate using those smiley-face things. I use written music to learn tunes too and to remind me with the first few notes or more when I forget the ones I've learned from print or by ear.)
  7. I have Dave Mallinson's 100 Essential Irish Session Tunes, and 100 Evergreen Irish Session Tunes. They are inexpensive, readily available, the typeface is easy to read, they include guitar chord markings, and I've found them handy for all the reasons you give. From the lack of response to this post I feel as if I'm revealing a secret sin here! Surely other people use written music? Of course, only as a prompt for material already learned by ear...
  8. I'm just an occasional lurker, but I might come if this were in the Columbus area--I'm near Chicago and it isn't too far. Winter is a bit of a problem, though. The people who run the camp may not believe in being snowed out, but anyone who is travelling would have to consider whether to invest in a weekend when weather might well make driving/flying impossible. I'd suggest April, even at somewhat higher prices. Cheap doesn't help if you can't get there or end up unable to get home afterwards.
  9. Dog collars work well--they come in various sizes and widths.
