What are the origins and timing of the wood vs metal facings on concertinas? Was there a reason for one vs the other? Kace

I am just starting out on the road to the concertina addiction. I have the bug and have not even played yet. Pretty scary! Is there anyone in the Kansas City area that could help a newbie get started? Heck, is there anyone within 4 to 6 hours of KC? I would be fine with driving and grabbing a cheep hotel room to get started out on the right foot. Kevin 'Kace' Christensen
