It seems to play OK, except the folds in the leather bellows stick together a lot. Can anyone recommend something I can do to fix this? yerpalal Posted September 9, 2003 Share Posted September 9, 2003 John, If the instrument is an old one its possible that the bellows are biodegrading, its not uncommon for accordion type bellows to start sticking together when they are quite old. If the instrument is new, I have no wisdom to impart. English Concertina bellows are very durable. Made of Goat skin, glued with bone glue and will last in excess of a hundred years or more. Frank Edgley Posted September 16, 2003 Share Posted September 16, 2003 Try spraying a cloth with silicone water repellent for shoes, and wiping this on the leather of the bellows folds. This should do the trick. The prob;em is likely not degrading as in that case the leather would become drier, and more brittle, but not sticky(IMHO) .
