  4. Thanks for the suggestion, but I think I would prefer to have people send me their videos directly. That way it is easier to have things like concertina of the month, and be able to have all "Edgleys" in one place.....sort of an archive of Edgley players. fedgley@cogeco.ca

    Hi Frank

What a neat idea. It's already a nice concertina blog. I can't wait to see how it turns out.

    Thanks

    Leo

  5. Hi Frank

Just a suggestion, YouTube allows embedding as a link from their site directly. Under the video is a button called share. Most uploads to YouTube allow it, if it's not disabled. All it is is a link to the video with no copying, and it has an embedded player. Click on it for some options to embed on your site. The person administering your blog would understand the codes. Here's a nice one to play with. I don't think the musician will mind.

It would look something like this:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ry6ysV-O-dg

A quick search came up with these:

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&biw=979&bih=763&q=edgley%20concertina&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=2965815l2970329l0l2970517l17l17l0l6l6l0l271l2582l0.1.10l11l0&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbo=u&tbm=vid&source=og&sa=N&tab=wv

Most of them are labeled with the description of the concertina, and most are from members here, and mentioned at one time or another in the video forum. To Email them, they would probably tilt the system and not send, since most are larger than allowed as an attachment to an email. They can be anywhere from 10 to 30 Megabytes large, depending on how it's sent. But, there is a way to watch and save it to your computer......... It's a start.

    Thanks

    Leo

Something a little different from the UK. Read the description

    Bizet ( arr: Faulkner Brandon ) : Toréador's Song , from ' Carmen '

 I confess I've never seen a melodica before. This makes playing a concertina look ... normal. :P Thanks. I really enjoyed all your links.

    Lucy

    Hi Lucy

This is the part that got my attention in the three descriptions:

This arrangement of the famous aria was made for the instrument known as an 'English concertina'. I am playing it here on melodica, as a fun contribution to this channel. Incidentally, the named arranger 'Faulkner Brandon'......

    How about that! Concertina music.

    Thanks

    Leo

  10. Hi Phil

Not a big deal, really. All the notes are there, within the range of the instrument. What looks like missing notes are nothing more than duplicates. For instance, the "missing" D# on the right is a duplicate of the Eb on the left. Improvise on the fingering and the tunes should all work out o.k. Here's a picture of a 30 button English:

    http://www.concertinaconnection.com/jackie%20layout.htm

The layout, otherwise, is the same as the 48 in the tutor, so if/when the time comes to upgrade, it will all be familiar. It's only a little restrictive, but not necessarily a show stopper.

    Thanks

  12. Hi all.

I'm a novice when it comes to concertinas, as well as music in general, but I picked up one of those cheap chinese pieces of junk 30 key c/g anglos and have been having fun with it.

Unfortunately, after only having it a month, some of the buttons stick, etc etc. I knew it wouldn't last long when I got it, but I was hoping for a bit more time, especially since I only have time to play with it for an hour a day.

So I am looking for a modest (400 is my max, and I'd honestly like to spend less, the wife and I are both back in school, money is tight) 20 - 30 key c/g anglo.I've been checking flea markets and ebay, but no luck so far.

I'd love to try out an EC too, but i can't find any in Florida.

    Hi Thaosyr

Have you considered a rental until the time comes? Also, their instruments in stock page has a Rochelle (Anglo), and Jackie (English). Both are well thought of. http://www.buttonbox.com/other-services.html

    Thanks

    Leo :)

If you don't have the Australian/New Zealand language pack installed, this is for the Northern Hemisphere.

    Hi Dirge

    O.K. I won't really answer then

Nearest I can find is on this page, you'd have to email them for the requested PDF.

  14. Hello I have been looking for an arrangement of O Sole Mio with more than just the melodic line in the treble cleft. Does anyone have one by chance as I would love a copy. I have searched the Internet to no avail....I'm sure I must not know where to look. Thank you from Texas. Stephen

    Hi Stephen

  16. Hi Shas

I agree with Jim. I highly doubt it's been done. The closest I recall is this comparison by one of our members. It's only a very recent addition from around the end of June :

    http://irish.cocolog-nifty.com/flute_concertina/2011/07/the-blackthorn.html

It was mentioned in this thread. There are a few Rochelle samples, but no side by side comparison:

    http://www.concertina.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=7283

It's not exactly what you ask, but I think it's the closest you'll find.

    Thanks

  18. I hold mine with the straps rather loose, and my thumbs through to the first joint. It's tilted from the horizontal up about 20 to 30 degrees. Most of the weight is on my thumbs and my pinky moves around as more of a help in moving to reach the notes, both low and high.

I usually play with three fingers, with the index finger taking the fourth row also.

    Thanks

    Leo
