Yeah, Chris, you look just like that on the back of your CD (which I LOVE , btw)
-
psst! someone needs to tell chainyanker that we don't play the cases!
And I don't want to admit to how many times I've set my concertina down on top of a dog crate, too...

Hi Paul,
There doesn't seem to be the option of clicking on back pages of thread topics in the teaching and learning forum like there are in the others (including this one), neither at the top or the bottom. Can you fix this?

I'm not sure what happened to my avatar...*wanders off to check*
ETA: Okay, I'm back. This is Paige, who died right after our daughter was born.
-
Sadly, no. (we were supposed to hear by this Friday and I haven't heard anything yet, so...)
This is for the Southwest Squeeze-in.
-
Um, I don't have a drone button. Not on a 24-button.
Well, I might print them out anyway and see how far I can get.
-
Avalon Quickstep. I'm just not getting the "flow" of it, no matter how much I practice and how many times I listen to the mp3.
-
For some reason, this makes me inordinately happy.
Probably because I am experiencing a lot of frustration learning certain old-timey tunes for a certain event in March/April
-
can someone more adept at these things than me look at these exercises and see if they're possible on an anglo?
-
I'll probably drag the PA along, just in case one of those old-timers can give me a few pointers!
-
Funny, funny man you are, Jim.
I think my spouse was just relieved it wasn't another pet...
-
Charlotte, you're braver (and less techno-challenged) than I am! I think it's great that you have two tunes up there!
Although I'd probably have consumed the alcohol sooner than third in the process
-
Hey Dan,
Is this really a squeeze-in squeeze-in or a concertina-exclusive event?
Gods of pained eardrums help me, I just acquired a PA.
-
Although they don't advertise this on their site, the Button Box occasionally has *used* concertina cases. I bought a very sturdy (albeit profoundly ugly) case from them about 2 years ago for $40.

Anyone got a Jack or a Jackie that's just being neglected? I'd love to rent one for a while, to see if I can get the hang of the different system. I'd be willing to discuss rent-to-own.
(not expecting a lot of replies but hey, it's worth a shot!)
Thanks

Trade ya! We've had no measurable precip since October 9.
-
Since the SW Squeeze-in is one week after the event I auditioned for, I am sure it will be balm for my feelings! I can't wait to be in the band!
-
I probably will, at least the alto part!
-
Dan, do you have mp3 files of this music?
-
Hooray for Jill's healed finger and the successful gig!
Yes, Jill, the dog's head survived the encounter with my finger much better than my finger did. I think the worst part was trying to explain to the doctor what happened. I am reminded of a quote I saw on a doglover's website last week:
"Of all the things my dog has destroyed, I miss my dignity the most."

I don't think the audition went very well yesterday
It was really slow, every person got to do their two prepared pieces, all the way through. I sat there and froze to death in a high school gym for two hours, and I was the 8th person on the list. Needless to say, the banana I ate (to help my nerves) right before I left home expired before my turn came.
I made the classic CLASSIC beginner's mistake -- I started Arkansas Traveler at a decent tempo, the promptly sped it up into the train wreck it became. I was supposed to do 2x through, AABB, and forgot the second B the last time through, so it was AABBAAB. ARGH!!!! At least I didn't mess up the notes I DID play.
I am very glad that I had the foresight at 20 to not choose a theater career where my livelihood depended on passing auditions. No, that was not a factor I thought of at the time I decided to major in tech theater, but it is definitely a side benefit!
I also learned that it's easier to audition in front of strangers rather than friends.
Oh, well.
We're supposed to hear by the 10th if we're in or not. Apparently we can participate in the Sunday gospel show if we want (and I will cop to NAILING my acapella rendition of "Down to the River to Pray." DAMN I sounded good!), but getting into the Thursday, Friday or Saturday night show is the hard part.
I'm already making plans for next year.
Edited to add: Mega-kudos to Animaterra for her counsel and advice with post-laryngitis voice issues and general support! At least the singing part went well!

The "busking" term in this context is confusing for me, too.
Although, so is the entire thread, since I have not yet made the big leap to chords (I know, I know, way past time)
-
I couldn't play for two months once because my right index finger and my dog's very hard head tried to occupy the same space at the same time. Hyperflexed, straining the tendons all to hell.
Really, really hard to play anglo in a splint...
Have more tea and toast, it really does help
-
Yes, they help!
At least they help me...
Cases

Just a few dogs, and a few crates, three permanent, up to 5 with fosters at one point. Need to upgrade one of the crates to the extra-extra-huge model for the great dane.
Actually, that's a really clever case. I wouldn't have thought to use a makeup case. Which should tell y'all how often I wear makeup (1992? 1991? I totally forget)
