  1. Stamford Arts Centre, Lincolnshire, UK

This day is an excellent opportunity to get together with other concertina players and experience playing your own part in a concertina band.

We welcome players of English, Anglo and Duet concertina systems. The music will be arranged in parts to accomodate players of Treble, Baritone and Bass concertinas. Players are welcome to bring more than one concertina to the event. Whilst players of all skill levels are welcome, some music reading will be essential.

Once again the Musical Director will be Paul Barrett.

Booking is now open on our website, where full details can also be found.

  2. I also have cases from 5 Star.  Once we can visit again I will be getting them to make me a double case for my treble and baritone EC concertinas and a single case for my bass.  Compared to the weight of the wooden case my double action bass is currently in, a 5 Star one will be light!!  I am hoping to design something with them which has wheels and a handle to reduce the amount of carrying I have to do.  Definitely worth talking to them about what you need, they are very helpful.

  3. I have had custom cases made by 5 Star Cases in Wisbech, as have several of my friends.  They do a great job and the cases are robust, but light and also you get a choice of colours.  Mine are red, but I know people with blue, grey, black etc.  They won’t be working at the moment I guess, but take a look at their website to see what they do.  I always go to the factory, as it is fairly local, but they can work from your measurements, as they are used to making concertina boxes.  One of my friends even had a double box made.  The photo is of the case they made for my baritone.

  4. Sadly, but probably not unexpectedly, we have had to cancel our 2020 Band Day on 14th June.

However, we do have the date for our 2021 event.

Save the date and we look forward to seeing you next year instead.

  5. I suspect this discussion need to be in a different forum, however you may be interested to know that yesterday at SqueezEast Concertina Band Day in Stamford UK, I played my 12 button English as a piccolo in a Handel piece.  There were three treble players with me who could read the ledger lines, as well.  When I bought mine I thought I was buying a curio or a toy, but it has turned out to be a serious and useful instrument.  I use it quite a bit in our concertina band, to play descant lines.  If you go to the SqueezEast Concertinas website you can hear it on a number of the recordings.  It is in The William Giles Quadrille on this page http://squeezeast.org.uk/sq18.php

Mine, a metal ended, bone button, Wheatstone, has been fully serviced by Steve Dickinson, so is in tip top playing condition.  I find it makes my hands ache if I play it for too long though.  It has no thumb straps, so we attached a mobile phone wrist strap, just in case I were to drop it.
