Super cool! The dancing puppets were delightful.
I thought your playing was good as well, makes me
want to learn Scotland the Brave.

Its a great tune that deserves to be played.Hey Maki, thanks for posting my tune and reviving the thread. How nice to see folks still playing it.
I liked enough that I bought the COOL TUNES FOR HOT DANCES CD and book of sheet music.

Loves me some schooner.

I think I like your nautical theme work best, though music is lovely.
It's just that I picture you on a stern castle giving orders to reef
in a gale. Have you sailed on a square rigged ship?

Thank you Wolf!
I'm not doing the tune or the instrument justice, but it's a start.

Still have sore hands, but AT LEAST got the tune out, on my treble Albion -- I want to see if I can re-do this but add the foot bass. This is just the bare bones minimum again, so... don't really expect much comment, just happy to not break my record of having played the TOTM each month so far...

same is at:

later I'll try to play it with my foot bass.
Have listened to more of you all playing... very nice!
Just lovely.

Thanks for the encouragement.
Its hard to believe that I've been playing that tune for a year.

My first effort now on youtube.
Funny how being recorded throws a hitch in your get along.
Still, not my worst take, not by far.

I play with my wife - no pun.
Having tunes together is such fun.
While she plucks I squeeze
The notes pour out with ease
So find someone to play one on one.
I started with line 3 the other way round but it got me into trouble! No offence intended.
Lovely!

Nice playing Wolf!
Love that harmonic style.
-
I play with my wife, on pun, who is also somewhat of a beginner.
She is kind and sympathetic, musically at least, so having tunes
together is lots of fun.
Maybe it helps that she plays a mandolin.
Perhaps you could find an individual who you get on with
for one on one sessions?
-
Crested Hen for me. Its a tune on the "Gergory Mahan and Friends" CD.
They play it fast there. The slow Solas version is even better.
-
My lack of feed back is due to my limited experience/knowledge.
So much of what you great players post is over my head.
I suspect many nOObs feel the same.

dating to circa 1885....
Super cool!
We aren't just owners, we are care takers and trustees.
No reason these wonderful instruments won't be playing
music one hundred years from now.

I love TOTM.
It has been wonderful listening to other play tunes.
The techinal difficulties of posting have hindered me from submitting.
More over, I'm a terrible musician and rather embarrassed by my playing.
Now that my wife has a smart phone I hope to be able to put something up.
They will be humble efforts though.
I think I have learned 4-5 tunes from this forum.
While I normally play ITM many of the TOTM
selections have been very appealing to me.
I find great value here, thank you for all the work that has gone
into it.
Signed, Lurky-Lou

I finally got mine.
Looking forward to learning some of those beautiful
harmonic arrangements for the holidays.

Looks like an English.

One possibility is to get it evaluated by a respected restorer.
There are some people who's word on value is widely accepted.
They could tell you exactly what you have, and how much a restoration would cost.
It's really a specialised field.

Thanks a lot Jack & Maki…
"I figured out how to use the air button with a note button"
It hadn't occurred to me that it's possible to combine a quick gasp of air at the same time as playing a note on the draw, I'll have to try that later!
[i
On a draw or push note, but doing it in musically pleasing fashion is not easy.

Sorry for the un helpful reply.
I used to just press a handful of buttons to let air in.
What I learned quickly was that my hand rests were very low for my hands
which are large to extra large.
I read here of cutting cheap plastic foam pipe insulation to both pad the
hand rest and increase the hieght.
Eventually I contacted the maker of my concertina to have handrests
made to the hieght of 1 1/8 inch.
All my buttons seem to work much better now.
If you're handy you could do it yourself?
BTW, that lever idea is AWESOME!
-
I never used the air button for the first year.
-
I have almost no music background since starting up on a whistle four years back.
One of the great attractions of ITM is that there is so much material for learning.
Give me a super highway to travel as I'd be lost on anything less obvious.
Newbee...thrilled And Overwhelmed...advise Please. Thanks!
