Helen Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 Perhaps some people played the concertina first, then went on to try one of the accordions. If you played more than one concertina, pick the one you identify with and then the first type of accordion you tried. Have fun. Forgive me if I termed things incorrectly or left something out. I am considering button accordions and melodeons to be the same. Helen
JimLucas Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 Once again, I'm left out. I do the all sorts of concertinas (to varying degrees of proficiency), and they came both before and after my attempt at the melodeon. Ten years ago I could play one tune on the melodeon, but I can't even do that, now, so it would be a fraud to say that I "play" it. I am considering button accordions and melodeons to be the same. That's a bit like considering guitars and mandolins to be the same (and what about the "chromatic button accordions"?). But it's all for fun, and it'll be interesting to see what responses you get.
Helen Posted April 18, 2004 Author Posted April 18, 2004 Yes, I know that considering button accordions and melodeons to be the same is not accurate. However, I did not want to have a morass of choices and was trying to differentiate between accordions with piano keys and ones with buttons on the right side. Sorry if that is offensive to some people, but I tried to say that I was aware I was mashing together the accordions for the sake of simplicity and clarity. Sorry Jim that you do not fit in. Give me a clue and I'll design a poll just for you. And surprisingly, it will probably fit others also. I realize that these are not scientific or all inclusive polls. But perhaps fun. Helen And anyway, I am overjoyed that I figured out how to do polls. Thought I had done one before, but don't think so as I was a little confused on how to set it up. But fun and easy.
Robin Madge Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 I have not voted as although I played Anglo then an 80 base piano accordian, I gave up the accordian as an unsatifactory experience some years ago. Robin Madge
Helen Posted April 20, 2004 Author Posted April 20, 2004 Well so far it looks like people went to the button accordion, although 2 people are really not a trend. Although Robin would have been piano accordion if he hadn't had such a bad experience. Helen
Michael Reid Posted April 20, 2004 Posted April 20, 2004 Helen, I haven't voted in this poll because the sequence of my interests has been: (1) Piano accordion (2) English concertina (3) Button accordion (4) Anglo concertina I did vote already in the accordion-to-piano poll (piano to English). Maybe I can vote in this poll too (English to button) and once more in the other poll (button to anglo)? Or is that like voting Chicago-style ("early and often")?
JimLucas Posted April 20, 2004 Posted April 20, 2004 ...and once more in the other poll (button to anglo)? I'm afraid The Software doesn't allow that. Hmm. "The Software " in that context sounds a bit like "The Emperor", or even "the gods". Do we have a new religion here? (That's a joke. Please, let it be a joke! )
Helen Posted April 21, 2004 Author Posted April 21, 2004 Well, Michael, obviously you need your very own poll. The accordion to concertina to accordion to concertina poll. Hmm. We could do that. You know you could vote in this poll as you do fit it. Helen
JimLucas Posted April 22, 2004 Posted April 22, 2004 Well, Michael, obviously you need your very own poll. The accordion to concertina to accordion to concertina poll. Hmm. We should be able to put smileys on the little circles/buttons by each of the poll selections. Then for Michael we could have the (unsure) smiley.
Helen Posted April 22, 2004 Author Posted April 22, 2004 Oh very good Jim. And we can get a special dispensation for Michael so that he can vote early and often as a previous poster so wittingly said. Oh shoot, they said it on a previous page and I can not scroll down and find their name. Well kudos to you who said that nifty thing referring to Chicago voting. (early and often.) Helen Playing her piano accordion but meaning to play her concertina.
