Animaterra Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 Last night and the night before (April 16 and 17) I played concertina in public for a paying audience- for the first time! Granted, they had paid to hear my women's chorus sing, and had no idea they were going to be free-reeded, but their applause was polite and my fingers didn't shake too much. My harpist friend Melanie and I played the Lamentation of Owen Roe O'Neil, followed by Si Beag, Si Mor with harp, guitar, AC, recorder, and piano- lush and lovely, chestnut though it was! Of course, last night as we were recording the concert I fudged on Owen, but recovered. After less than 3 months of playing I'm shaky but pleased. Allison
Helen Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 Wow Allison, super congratulations. Very well done. Brave woman that you are. I am so impressed. Helen
RustyBits Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 WOOHOO! You're a braver woman than I am! I paly for the Morris team at practice and my debut was playing out on May Day morning at dawn on top of a hill. My only audience was be the team, a few friends and the ocean! That's about all I can handle.
bellowbelle Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 Hey, congratulations, Animaterra! Glad it was you and not me, though...heheh. I'll just keep playing for my parakeets and dogs and cats. Oh, yeah, and the husband.
Rhomylly Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 Way to go Allison! I understand the shaky fingers all too well! I recorded a demo CD yesterday in an attempt to get into one of the downtown summer festivals, and I was real shaky. I'm proud of you!
Henk van Aalten Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 After less than 3 months of playing I'm shaky but pleased. Congratulations Allison and go on!!
Robert Booth Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 Good for you, and after such a short time playing! What courage. Please note a new verb entering the language: to free reed. Let's get out there and free reed 'em till they capitulate! "The beatings will continue until morale improves." From a Blackadder episode. RB
Unseen122 Posted April 20, 2004 Posted April 20, 2004 *Clap Clap* sounds like it went well that is pretty good after only three months. Si Bheag Si Mohr is a good song.
JimLucas Posted April 20, 2004 Posted April 20, 2004 After less than 3 months of playing I'm shaky but pleased. Well done!
Animaterra Posted April 20, 2004 Author Posted April 20, 2004 Thanks, everybody! If I sweet-talk the fellow who recorded the concert, I might be able to post a sound clip at some point. If I dare! Allison
Helen Posted April 20, 2004 Posted April 20, 2004 Oh gosh, now I am even more impressed. You played AND someone was recording it AND you are thinking of posting it. My heart's aflutter. Hats off to you. Helen The mind boggles at what you will be doing with 3 years under your belt.
Henk van Aalten Posted April 21, 2004 Posted April 21, 2004 If I sweet-talk the fellow who recorded the concert, I might be able to post a sound clip at some point. If I dare! Looking at your avatar, you have more sweets to offer than just sweet-talking! So posting a clip should be no (technical) problem .
RustyBits Posted April 21, 2004 Posted April 21, 2004 If I dare! If you dare to post the recording, or if you dare to sweet talk the guy????????
