moonsagotunes Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 My daughter's wedding is less than 3 weeks away! Maybe you remember I was asking for suggestions, a while back, on what to perform. Here's what we end up with: Alright, Okay, You Win (Sid Wyche & Mayme Watts) ~ accordion, harmonica, voice (me & husband) Squeeze Box (Pete Townshend) ~ accordion, harmonica, voice (me & husband) Love's Old Sweet Song (music, Molloy; words, Bingham) ~ concertina, voice (me alone) There may eventually be a youtube thing I can share, not sure. I've wanted to include the foot bass on Love's Old Sweet Song but it sounds too risky so far...have enough to do just singing and playing it. Have been working out at a gym every day to keep my arms & everything working....it's been a great help, though I was worried for a while when I started, since my hands swelled up in reaction to using the gym equipment. I do recommend Planet Fitness if you live near one -- their policy is 'No Critics,' 'Judgement-Free Zone,' etc. -- and it's much more comfy than other gyms I've tried. All types of people there, not all workout pros. I have a bad shoulder, etc., so in order to hold my concertina freely and play with ease, the weight machines help. Anyway.... I'll let you know how it goes! I'm nervous but I intend to have a blast (that means fun)!
david_boveri Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 good luck! let us know how it goes. i think that's cool that you're going to be playing your own daughter's wedding.
Chris Timson Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Well two weeks after that my sister gets married (for the first time though in her 40s) and she has asked me and Anne to sing and play Anne's song Peaceful Harbour on our concertinas while they do the signing the register bit. I must say I was startled and much moved to be asked. You have fun too. Chris
moonsagotunes Posted September 7, 2009 Author Posted September 7, 2009 The wedding went well, and we did our 3 songs as planned. As for my rendition of 'Love's Old Sweet Song,' I'd say it was 'ok,' though not exactly as good as what I'd hoped for. Don't know yet if there will be any convenient way for me to share any online recordings.... will know soon. The wedding was wonderful, though with a few little glitches.... one bridesmaid broke her foot at the rehearsal, so she walked down the aisle on crutches and was then later carried out by her groomsman. Then, the DJ had a car crash on the way to the reception (and fortunately was not hurt... just a bit late). I've had to lay off the gym workouts until after the wedding, because the sweating while running on the elliptical helped to bring on the worst case of poison ivy I've ever had or seen in my life! Thankfully I could keep most of it covered up while at the wedding. Drank a pinch extra of the champagne to help numb the discomfort. Anyway.... will post audio/video links or a pic later if I have any.
