I went to a great concert this evening at the ecotarium in Worcester, Massachusetts - part of the 'Jazz At Sunset' series - Nathan & The Zydeco Cha Chas (superb accordion, etc). It was amazing. Man (former trumpet player) sitting near me: 'Do you play an instrument?' Me: 'Yeah, I play the accordion. But I also play the concertina.' Man: 'A WHAT?' ???? We need to be heard from more...at least in central Massachusetts. Heheh!

However, this online thesaurus has various non-mathematical definitions and synonyms, including "common", "usual", "prevalent", "sane", "right". "wholesome", "average", and "unexceptional". I guess it depends on the context, including who is using it.

Tom [Edit for typo] I noticed this effect on returning to Normal Avenue, Normal, Illinois, from Pinewoods camp. I was at the English-Scottish dance week. There was another English concertina player in the band class. Great fun. The town got its name from the Illinois State Normal University (now called Illinois State University), which has had the education of teachers as its main mission since 1857.

That's exactly what I did. I'm not sure if the man knew what I meant but at that point it was getting too noisy around us to talk much. (...Excuse to buy a concertina T-shirt or pin.)
