Bruce McCaskey Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 (edited) Kevin has offered to open his home again to host another gathering of Seattle area concertina players. Last year we had 18 people attend and some came from over 100 miles away. It was a lot of fun and everyone had a good time. This is a no-fee, no-pressure gathering of concertina-minded people of all skill levels. The day typically consists of relaxed discussions, a mix of spontaneous tunes, a session or two and snacks. You'll likely see a mix of Anglo, English and Duets show up. This year the event will be held in August, either Saturday August 22nd, or Saturday August 29th. The tentative choice is the 29th, but Kevin is holding the 22nd open as an alternative and we will wait to hear from folks and see if there is a strong preference before making a final selection. Last year some were unable to attend because of vacation or work schedules and shifting a week would have removed the conflict for everyone. If you're interested in attending (everyone is welcome), please email me and I'll pass your name along to Kevin. If one of the two proposed dates definitely won't work for you, include that information. We will update you as the firm date once we have everyone's input. Details as to time and address will be provide by email as the date nears. For perspective, here are two links to information about the 2008 Seattle Gathering and the 2006 Seattle Gathering that should give you a pretty good idea as to what to expect. I prefer to avoid posting my email address openly in order to avoid junk mail from the ever-active advertising and virus-aiding bots that patrol sites such as this, so you'll have to remove all of the percent symbols (%) from the following to reveal it: %%bruce@%%angloplayer.%%com Edited July 9, 2009 by Bruce McCaskey

Where's the adventure in that? I play Anglo after all, if I wanted easy I'd play English... Seriously, I've never figured out which might be easier, all I know is that after playing Anglo a few years I tried an English and found myself almost unable to overcome the impulse to reverse bellows directions for various notes despite the "logical" part of my mind knowing it wasn't necessary. As to messaging, use whatever you feel comfortable with. We've heard from several people so far but still have lots of space available.
Bruce McCaskey Posted July 21, 2009 Author Posted July 21, 2009 Kevin has reviewed the input and determined the event date (and apparently renamed it as well). He's asked me to pass on the following: Here are the particulars for The "Not-So-Annual Puget Sound Area Concertinists Gathering." Date: Aug. 29, 2009. Time: Afternoon until whenever. If you want a specific time, try 2:00, but feel free to come earlier. Place: (Location information emailed to those that contact Bruce indicating their intent to attend) Who: Concertinists, concertina learners, concertinist-wannabees, their friends, families and others. What: A gathering of people that play concertinas - Anglos, Englishes, duets and other. Lots of talk, playing, camaraderie... We'll go however long people feel inclined.
