rorykehoe Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 (edited) Hello Everybody! OK - Pics uploaded and some more details/answers for those who have replied to my ad, as well as those others who have shown interest/may be interested. Serial Number of the instrument is 35107. Bellows are 6-fold, black and in excellent condition. Buttons (x39) are ivory, although I take the point that they could be faux ivory. These days, that's nicer! Ends are definitely Rosewood. Fingering is as MacCann (Maccann if you prefer!) but I was always told that Wheatsone's called this Duette. Case is black, original and lockable. I have a copy of the original Wheastone ledger entry for this instrument, dating it to 21st September 1938 As before, any queries/questions can go to rmkcanterbury@hotmail.com I also have the pics set up on that address if there's any problem viewing on the c-net site. Thanks. Rory. Just to let you know that I have decided to sell my Wheatstone Aeola Duet Concertina. I have owned it since 1978 and prior to that, it had only one owner since new (c.1938) and he was posted missing/died in WWII. I bought this instrument from the owner's brother. This Concertina is in lovely condition, has rosewood ends, ivory buttons and in every respect is a beautiful instrument. The bellows are as new, the action is nice and tight and the tone is pretty much as Wheatstone intended. I'll be uploading some pics just as soon as I have worked out how to do this! If you would like to register initial interest, then please feel free to contact me at: rmkcanterbury@hotmail.com As for price? Well, to the penny it's worth what someone is happy to offer. No point in my putting silly numbers up on the forum and no-one need waste their time will equally silly microbids! One thing is for sure and that is my Wheatstone will be going to someone that appreciates a quality instrument and who will cherish it. All the best. Rory. Edited July 11, 2009 by rorykehoe
JimLucas Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 How many buttons? Or should we just wait for the photos?
Bob Lusk Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 Sounds like a case that if you need to ask what it costs you can't afford it, but a ball park figure would be helpful>
Chris Drinkwater Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Well, if it is an Aeola duet, it is likely to be either a model 40 or 41, with a serial number in the 33,000 range, and a glance at the Wheatstone ledgers for the years 1934-36, will show that only a very few of these were made, so it is quite rare. The model 40 has 72 keys as standard and the 41 has 81 keys as standard, though there are variations, including one with 78 keys. They normally have ebony ends, not rosewood, And which system? McCann? Crane/Triumph? It will be interesting to find out exactly what we have here. Chris
Stephen Chambers Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 They normally have ebony ends, not rosewood, ... It will be interesting to find out exactly what we have here. Chris, I was thinking that myself, in fact ivory keys would be pretty unusual on an Æola too - though by 1935 they'd more likely be plastic (Erinoid), rather than ivory anyway.
Irene S. Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 (edited) So I wonder where Rory went? He posted four days ago, and said photos would be up then ... and since then.. silence. Edited July 10, 2009 by Irene S
Irene S. Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 Hmm... sorry, I take that back, as I see that he edited his original post yesterday ... confusing !!!
Stephen Chambers Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 This Concertina is in lovely condition, has rosewood ends, ivory buttons and in every respect is a beautiful instrument. Rory, It would be a big help if you could you tell us the serial number...
