michael sam wild Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 I've been having fun with a hornpipe in G from a 1994 CD by Turas featuring Padraig Rynne and pals. It a tune called Fal Carragh. Has anyone any info on the source? I met Turas in Ennis and got the CD from them, they were young and had an exciting sound. Very little on Google about them and what they are doing now
Guest Peter Laban Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 (edited) Tommy Potts used to play a tune called the Falcarragh but this is a reel, named after a place in Donegal if I remember correctly. The 'Fal Carragh' hornpipe appears t obe a composition by Alf Duggan, guitar player from Ennis, Co Clare. Edited June 19, 2009 by Peter Laban
michael sam wild Posted June 20, 2009 Author Posted June 20, 2009 (edited) Thanks Peter, that adds another piece to my jigsaw puzzle. I got out my Tommy Potts 'Liffey Banks' CD and realised it was a different tune. What a unique style he has, a bit too florid for me, like Sean McGuire, but always worth a listen I think Fal carragh means The Rocky Wall ( carragh, crag, creag, carreg etc) I note that the village was also called The Crossroads or Robertstown . I met Alf in the 90s when he was playing in sessions round Ennis with Tommy Peoples. , a nice guy and a great guitarist. It's a nice hornpipe which plays well dotted or undotted.
