Over at www.thesession.org members can only start one new discussion per day.

Is it possible to restrict the number of people a member here can send PMs to per day?

Many thanks to all those who keep these forums clean for their intended purpose.

Tom

For the benefit of me and my fellow Luddites, what exactly is 'captcha software' please? (If it can be explained easily)

just got one, deleted it after opening it

Yeah, I got that message as well, I did click on to read what it was, as my head hasn't had it's caffeine fix yet! But, we have recently updated our spyware and antivirus protection so we should be ok. Spambots are becoming trickier and trickier, and it's why I gave up being an admin. on two forums. I spent more time trying to stem the flood of spambots then I did actually doing forum business. But I was one person, at least here and other forums that I belong to have several.

I got the same e-mail, and naively assumed a pm from a reputable site like concertina.net would be OK. Did two of those typing in letters and numbers thingies before becoming suspicious and exiting. Does this mean that my computer is about to go up in smoke? (I see that Justrakop is now listed as banned.)

Yes, I've just downloaded a new patch that does just that. I know, closing the barn door... but this should take care of this new type of spammer who manually registers, then sets up a bot to send the PMs (they used to have bots try to register and then other bots try to post messages in the forums... they were easier to catch).

Thanks, and again, sorry for having this jerk get by me,

Paul

This user was deleted by Paul (who gets up earlier than me I guess) about an hour ago. We used to have constant trouble with spam about 4 years ago as some of you may recall. This was a rare case of one slipping by, thanks for your vigilance; my mailbox is full with your many messages (which I won't reply to individually).

I am very worried,I mistakenly clicked on this bastard, any advice please.

Your account is not compromised... it's just links to stuff trying to get you to buy their garbage or sign up for porn stuff or whatever the spammers are up to at any particular time.

Checking my email tonight I saw a notice that I had a new personal message on Concertina.net. Following the connection into my Concertina.net account took me to a one-line message that said only "Click here to read." Being highly suspicious of the nature of the message, I "hovered" my cursor over the words and noted the linked address and then "Goggled" the address rather than clicking the link to view it. Viewing the Google search results suggests that the link goes to some sort of "adult" site, and I wouldn't be surprised if the simple act of clicking the link ended up loading some sort of spyware or virus.

If anyone else has received a similar personal message via Concertina.net, beware...

:(

I had exactly the same thing awaiting -- same sender, but listed as "Deleted Member" in my private mail listings.

I too hovered the cursor, saw the Russian site, and deleted it without reading.

SOmeone mentioned a "Report (spam" button -- I'll use that next time.

Thanks, Mike K.

Yes, I got the message last night (morning, eep!) as well. SpywareDoctor gave me warnings, so I deleted the message after checking on the member page. S/he/it had just joined before the message was sent, and since the latest visitors to their page were right at the same time as me I figured it was something everyone was getting.

I was pretty tired (I've been averaging 4 hours of sleep a day), so I didn't check to see if there's a "report" option on personal messages. Considered making a thread, but it was 1AM and I didn't trust myself to be able to write anything comprehensible.

And here I came to say that this weekend I got to play a Wheatstone. What can I say? Concertinalust.

This happens from time to time in forums. It costs nothing to send spam, and they work on the basis that one reply in a million is better than no replies. In the unicycle forum, the current "spam du jour" is, ironically, from a catering company! Just ignore any private messages that don't have an obvious concertina-related subject line.

Playing a concertina (or indeed any instrument) on a unicycle must be fun to do and watch.
