Sound but no picture on TG4 archive videos

Hi folks

 

I'm hoping someone can help me get the picture on TG4's archived videos. I can get the sound alright, but can't get the video. I have a new computer with Vista Home Basic, and have not been able to get the picture since I set it up. I'd be grateful for any ideas on how I can fix the problem, as I love to watch these shows.

try right click option 'full screen' when standing on the screen with the mouse

There is an option for resolution on the right part of the screen. I suspect checking a few various options will get the picture. Also, should save as a preference once done.

I don't know what browser you are using, but I had exactly the same problem when using Firefox - I got sound but no vision. I use the ie tab Firefox add on to run Internet Explorer as a tab in Firefox and that gives me sound and picture.

I don't know what browser you are using, but I had exactly the same problem when using Firefox - I got sound but no vision. I use the ie tab Firefox add on to run Internet Explorer as a tab in Firefox and that gives me sound and picture.

First questions I would ask are: which browser, and can you see YouTube, and Google video?

 

If you're using Firefox, then I would get the Media Player Plugin to play Microsoft playlist (ASX) files.

If I read my computer correctly, TG4 uses an ".ASPX" type file which is a Microsoft format for a playlist.

 

If you can't see Google videos and YouTube, then I would look to getting the latest Shockwave, Java, and PDF plugins and start from there. I believe Vista Home Basic is just as it says "basic" and left a lot of goodies out of the release. I've been working the last 2 weeks with Vista Home Premium, and I hate it already (It came with my computer). My laptop crashed after a good 4 year life.

 

I couldn't do anything with my replacement until I disabled some of the built in protections under User Account Controls, and called myself an administrator. That would be the first thing to do. Makes life more bearable.

Thanks for the info Leo. I've just tried that and unfotunately still only get sound in Firefox, which is a shame as I'd rather not use the ie tab work round. The test movie for Firefox worked OK so I know that the plugin was installed. I hate most of Vista as well!

Does the problem show up on one, (which one?) or both?

Might be worth a look at the security settings.

 

I'm not an expert by any stretch. These are just the problems and few fixes that I've stumbled upon over the last few weeks.

The problem only shows up with www.tg4.tv - the ie one plays straight away. Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I'll live with using the ie tab!

Problem now solved, ironically in the simplest possible way, by using Internet Explorer instead of Mozilla. Too soon old; too late smart, that's me.
