The Moorcock Ceilidh Band?

Recommended Posts

When I was browsing through YouTube this evening, I came across this video of the Moorcock Ceilidh Band & to my delight, it looks like the Concertina player, in this particular video is playing a Baritone.

The Moorcock Ceilidh Band ~ Da Slockit Light

Does anyone here know anything about this outfit?

If so, who is the Concertina player?

Cheers

Dick

Hi Dick,

I remember Pete Dickey telling me that the band arose many many years ago from a regular music session at the .... wait for it.... 'Moorcock Inn' up in the wild lands of the Wear Valley.

He did mention the Tina players name but my feeble brain has lost it.

Cheers

Dave

I know them well, and plays in sessions with most of them.

Clive Richards on English concertina

Dave Shaw on pipes (maker of very fine smallpipes and the Shaw whistle)

George Welch guitar - also a fabled singer and racoteur

The fiddle player here is Chuck Flemming

Would that be the same Moorcock Inn as features occasionally in the books of Michael Moorcock? If so, I'd be a bit cautious around them, you never know when they might suddenly change into weird eldritch creatures bearing doom-laden swords, as opposed to the doom-laden concertinas that we all bear ...

Talking of Michael Moorcock (I read them all years ago): I wonder if Hawkwind want a concertina player?

Thanks for that, Theo. I recognised Dave Shaw, having also played in sessions with him at The White Swan, Greenside and George Welch, but didn't know the names of the other two.
