How Good Are/were The Case Concertinas?

Recommended Posts

How good were the old Case concertinas and how good can they be if restored by someone who knows what they're doing (i.e. not me)?

I've seen a couple listed for sale lately, and it's got me wondering.

Well, since no-one else has replied I'll stick my neck out. SFAIK George Case was one of the early makers who made good concertinas, on a par with contemporary Wheatstones, that should be renovated and generally treated in the same way.

I have just put my George Case for sale on Ebay. The is a beautiful example and I would agree with Chris's assessment that they are the equivalent of the victorian Wheatstones. This one has been retuned and revalved. I'll be sorry to see it go but there is a Wheatstone tenor treble Aeola waiting in the wings and I need the funds!
