Queen Lud
Got the tunes down, now working on getting the right rhythm and ornamentation. I'll be at these guys for a few months I expect. That's interesting. Do you experiment with different styles of ornamentation until you find the 'right' one for each song? In my short time with the concertina I have found the learning of notes quite OK but am struggling with what to do with my left hand. The sound I am making is a bit on the droney side at the moment so I need to get braver with what you describe above. It is encouraging to read that you would play around with each song for a few months. I think it is easy to panic when learning a new instrument, especially when (as in my case) there is very little opportunity of seeing other folks play. Queen Lud
Just wondering, if you had to pick one tune to play on your concertina, which would you choose? My favourite tunes change on a monthly basis as I listen and learn new pieces. I have always had a interest in tunes with irregular time signatures and like a lot of Bulgarian and Macedonian dance music. Recent favourites have been Danke (Sheet music here) and Karamfil ( ). I have found the Weird Metronome very useful for learning these tunes. I also like dancing. Yes, dancing is good. Do you dance whilst playing? Dave Rogers
Yes, dancing is good. Do you dance whilst playing? Simon Care (Albion Band, Edward II) dances a Bampton Morris jig (Bacca Pipes) whilst playing his anglo concertina. He also dances Princess Royal whilst playing melodeon.
