Michael Reid Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Is there any reason to use an escrow service when purchasing a new instrument from a well-established maker? I'd also be interested in hearing other tips on executing an international purchase. I'm in the U.S. and am buying from abroad. Thanks.

If you trust the maker, I see no reason to use an escrow service.
Ken_Coles Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Escrow is great (if slow), however, for an international transaction with an unknown seller. Some years ago I bought a concertina from South Africa this way (used escrow.com, at the time they were fine if slow, don't know about currently). Ken
David Barnert Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 If I had to choose between trusting a well-established concertina maker and trusting an escrow service that I found through a web search, I'd trust the concertina maker.
Chris Timson Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 So would I. Remember you have one sanction whatever method of payment you choose. In the (unlikely) case of a maker mucking you about, you can always present the facts here. A savvy maker will recognise that a bad reputation on c.net will materially affect their sales. Chris
