Richard Mellish Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 It is reassuring that new concertina-reeded Haydens are available, and from more than one maker, even if only with a long wait. They do say that patience is a virtue. I have had three concertinas made for me (all Anglos, from three different makers) and my shortest wait was four years. 1

(I'm a solo maker and don't want to take on employees.) Sorry to have overlooked you, Alex. I knew I must have been missing someone but wasn’t thinking fast enough. 1
Daniel Hersh Posted June 19, 2024 Author Posted June 19, 2024 Edited to reflect that Dana Johnson [Kensington] has "gone dark". See below.

David Lay Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 Another member has posted that Jugen Suttner has stopped production (although his website does not say the same). If so, it seems that newly made concertina-reed instruments are becoming difficult to acquire with most makers either having a closed wait-list, or having quit production. 1

I have noticed a significant uptick in sales inquiries in the past six months or so (and my waiting list is not getting any shorter). I believe the shortage is currently worst for Duets; at least there is a handful of Anglo makers, and in my experience there isn't much demand for new English concertinas. 1
David Lay Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 (edited) Concertina Summary 2024.pdf I made this spreadsheet from what I could find on-line, excluding some makes that seem limited in availability. Let me know what I have wrong. I recently noticed that the Rochelle 2 is posted as "out of production". Edited August 31, 2024 by David Lay 1
Sean M Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 Hi, I am currently looking for a "traditional" style concertina with concertina reeds and was looking through the list here and noticed a few are no longer taking orders. Carroll Concertinas has a note saying they're still making concertinas but not taking orders, selling them as built and limited stock. Chris Ghent has a note saying the site is now a "legacy site" although it makes no mention of whether he's still building or not Holden website mentions that they are no longer accepting orders Seven Mount website mentions that they are no longer accepting orders Suttner I've heard the rumors but as mentioned above there's no mention on the website of stopping. 1

FYI, here's the post from Mike Acott that says Suttner is no longer making concertinas:

gtotani Posted October 21, 2024 Posted October 21, 2024 (edited) An update. It has been discovered that The Concertina Workshop (Jurie Olckers)has bought Gys Mans’ concertina factory in Alberton, South Africa, and The Concertina Workshop now builds Wheatstone style 40 button Anglo with traditional concertina reeds. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61563510783958 I would like to suggest deleting Gys Mans and add The Concertina Workshop in its place. Totani Thanks. I have added Concertina Workshop (Jurie Olckers). How do you know that Gys Mans is out of business? His Facebook page is still up at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100057035876378 .

Thank you Daniel, Jurie Olckers PMed to me that "I bought the concertina factory of Gys Mans", and then I have communicated with Gys Mans to confirm that "Jurie is taking over my concertina workshop. You can place an order with him." I might as well advice Gys Mans to indicate that he no longer produces concertinas in his Facebook page.
