Woody
I really enjoyed it despite uncomfortable seats & it starting over an hour later than I was expecting. Funny from start to finish with some in jokes for those that know the westcountry, those involved with Morris, and for Brits in general. There's even something for football fans! Overall though this is a really funny film that I think most people would really enjoy without any specialist knowledge.
Pamela
[it's an absolute hoot! I completely loved it. So did the rest of our side, and so far as I can tell so did the dozen or so other morris sides in the audience. It was a big audience and quite a social occasion, which meant that there was plenty of laughter out loud. Thanks Chris for the movie review. Now when this movie comes out on DVD would you folks across the pond let us Americans know so we might try to get a copy. Our teams are wanting to get together and have a community watching. We can't wait!!!!!! Thanks! Pam Brasstown, NC
JimLucas
Is this a joke, or a real movie? Both at once, and more besides.
JimLucas
Isn't it an amazing coincidence that only the other week, the Morris Ring brought Morris into the news for the first time since, well, probably for the first time? Oh, certainly not the first time. When New York City's Greenwich Morris Men toured England (1991, was it?), the BBC filmed us dancing at the Trip to Jerusalem pub in Nottingham. I think it was only shown locally, though, not nationally. There ARE those of us who will NEVER be anywhere within a thousand miles of a Morris dancer.... Can you be absolutely sure of that? One of our best dancers was from India. Where did he get his start? He was working abroad when he answered a post on the company bulletin board, thus becoming a member of the Abu Dhabi Morris Men. One of the Seattle teams was hosted by Hong Kong Morris, who took them touring in Mainland China. Perhaps less exotic, but I know of one Morris team in each of Denmark, Sweden, and Finland. Where else? I wonder. Edited to add: Surely, you're not more than 1000 miles from a Morris dancer. This web page indicates that there are five Morris teams in Queensland. spindizzy
disgraceful,it should not be allowed.I shall be contacting MaryWhitehouse ,about the Cerne Giant. The trailer has a very err... modest shot of the cerne abbas giant :-) (and a morris dancer)

You're right. My rough measurement on Google maps of the distance between the Torres Strait Islands and Brisbane was too rough. But the team in Darwin -- if it's not defunct -- looks to be just under your 1000-mile limit. I'm not sure, though, because I haven't tried to calculate the effect of Earth's curvature. Aquarussell
The script is witty and pokes gentle fun at the morris, but somehow without belittling it. The only thing is, should there actually be a Californian side called Orange County Morris then they should probably stay away. Chris The only side in Orange County that I know of is Wild Wood Morris, and aside from an erronious belief that border is superior to Cotswold Hills Morris, they seem a fair group with a good sense of humor. Chris Timson
aside from an erronious belief that border is superior to Cotswold Hills Morris Nothing wrong with a bit of self belief; you just can't always expect others to share it. Anyone from c.net planning on going on April 8th? **edit Booked - so on my way. I'm told this is the last showing of this season.. 60 tickets gone already (max 200), and that's faster than usual. Sherborne Tourist Info centre selling tickets (01935-815341) at £5.00. People are booking from Devon, Bristol, Oxford... and even, its rumoured, some female academic from Dublin. I'll see you there, since its a 'family' affair for me, and I'll probably be serving drinks. 7.30pm at the Digby Memorial Hall (that's the one almost next to the police station, not the Digby Hall, so don't get lost). newgrange
I have my ticket paid for and am booked into the Half Moon Inn which I must say has a delightful name. I think the lady in the tourist office thought I was crackers when I said where I was coming from. It's a splendid excuse to see what looks like a lovely part of England. newgrange
Not back long from the UK where I had a hugely enjoyable evening in Sherborne. As a non-English person, I think this film while certainly very 'English' would certainly travel to audiences outside England. I shall certainly go to see it if it appears on Irish screens. I loved the names and the old guy with the pipe. Edited April 10, 2009 by newgrange
Leo
It's a little too far for me, but, does anybody in Seattle, Washington US want to see it on May 23? http://www.siff.net/festival/film/reserve....123&id=6601 Thanks Leo
Boney
It's a little too far for me, but, does anybody in Seattle, Washington US want to see it on May 23? That's during Folklife, so I'll probably be around Seattle. Thanks for the heads up, I'll probably go!
