Hi all,

I was adviced (by the good Theo) to ask here how many scandinavian players hang on this forum. I live in the southern part of Sweden, so here and Denmark is where would be most helpful to me, but I'm also a curious one. I'm in the process of purchasing a new concertina, and I haven't been able to try many out. It would be of great interest for me to know what other players are around here, so I can come visit you, buy you a beer, and listen to what your concertina sounds like (and maybe have a quick go at it if allowed).

Only person I've met is Henrik Müller (which of course isn't very "only"!), but it would be nice to know who else is here on the forum. I'll try to visit national squeeze-fests in the future too.

Thanks for listening!

Have you met Louise Lundberg and Pontus Thuvesson yet? They shouldn't be far from you. They play English, duet and anglo between them and run the Scandinavian Squeeze In every year near Lund. Here's their web site. There's also Jim Lucas in Helsingør, of course, but as the most prolific poster on the forum he can reply for himself.

Ah, thanks for the Squeeze In advice! I actually met Jim Lucas about a month ago at a session, didn't realize he was on the forum. (I could I have missed that?) I probably won't have patience enough to go around and try many concertinas before I buy one, but it'll be great to have some references over time. Right now, I've only tried my Rochelle myself, and heard just a couple at sessions.

Again - thanks for the advice!

Gusten, perhaps this Swedish man has already been mentioned, but I don't know, because I only know him from YouTube, as Goran.

Göran Rahm lives, I believe, in Uppsala and is a former member of this forum.

Chris

I can't imagine why anyone would be a former member here (ignore this if it's indiscrete).

There's me of course up here in Dalsland. I should be at the SSI this year in April.

Then there's Rickard in Stockholm ( although I don't think he posts here) who plays with http://biphome.spray.se/ekenmorris/

He's the dancer that throws the sticks on the ground at the end.

And Fredrika Lundberg in Lund. I think she plays recorder mostly, but has/plays quite a nice tenor treble English.

Lund seems to be quite a concertina centre! Good thing I live here.

Thanks all for the advice, time for me to start networking.

Cheers!

It is. It is also a delightful town in its own right. If I didn't already live in rather a nice place I'd be quite envious of you.

Cheers,

I used to live in Lund many years during the 80s when I studied at the university there.

I regularly played EC with fiddlers there and became quite immersed in Swedish (not only skaansk) folk music and dance.

At that time there was a very vibrant folk music scene, not only Swedish, and I recall going to an annual Irish music festival at one of the 'nations' (student unions) there.

I recall meeting up with Goeran Rahm (haven't met Goeran in years), and I occasionally meet Rickard (AC) in Stockholm.

There weren't many concertinas around in those days as I recall.

How great to hear of other people's experience of this lovely place! I don't think they have an annual Irish music festival anymore, but me and my friends seem to be blowing some life into the Irish music scene. We perform every month on one of the 'nations' (Krischansta, close to the Technical Institute-part of the university), alternating between reels n' jigs, and the most classic pub songs (Wild Rover and the alike). That 'nation' always sell at least twice as much beer as otherwise when we perform. ;)

And yes Chris, Lund truely is a delightful town. I've lived here during my studies for four and a half years now, and now I'm looking for a job so I can stay here.

Cheers all!

I know little about scandinavian music but the little I have listened to

has delighted me. I would be curious in hearing what a concertina would

sound like in that context.

Could somebody indicate recordings or videos ?

Anything you recognise? Early 80s, I would guess.
