Ptarmigan
I just got my hands on this yesterday & it is an absolute delight. Ben Lennon and Tony O’Connell ~ Rossinver Braes
ceemonster
i am pretty crazy about it as well. i didn't have a clue about this cd and got on to it when i heard it playing in custys last summer and inquired....it wasn't officially launched yet and i think they had just gotten it in.....i have plenty of favorite concertina cds, and this is now among them....is that some the sweetest, jauntiest, swingiest playing you've ever heard in your life, or WHAT???? it is amazing the difference that different swing and rhythm make....it's not that the concertina is being played any "better" than it is on that cd with andy morrow....i have that cd and it is fine, but i do not turn to it that often...but playing here to ben lennon's swing and old-style lift & expression, the concertina sound is in a completely different realm....it's mind-boggling how different it sounds... Glad you agree with me. Those guys playing together is just so right. Personally, I'm just not interested in flashy, self indulgent Concertina CDs, I just want to listen to really, really great music .... & this is! There are some lovely new tunes that, as soon as you hear them, you know you will not rest until you have them learned. Also, right from the word go, the music is just so warm & inviting that you just want to dive right in & play along. Two master craftsmen at the peak of their game with absolutely nothing to prove to anyone, which gives them the confidence to sound so completely relaxed, all the way through. It has to be said, the backing is superb too & in just the right place ..... tucked in right behind them. Irish Music, the way we would all love to be able to play it. Henrik Müller
I bought it in Ennnis in November - lovely, lovely stuff. Cool, relaxed, laidback and sweet - fiddleplaying at this speed is a (rare) delight - so many tunes are hammered to death by high speed. /Henrik
Takayuki YAGI
I bought it from Custy's just before the Ennis Trad Festival, by mail order. I love this album, music played in so relaxed way. -- Taka
